i hated this movie, it was sooooooooo disappointing,
i saw it 2 years ago and it was an hour and a half of my life i will never get back, its not very violent, it was boring and it took forever to get to anything good, i saw this in a Melbourne cinema, it was playing with a movie called storm warning (the better film, this movie shut down the Victoria movie studio it flopped that hard over here

Though I didn’t hate The Loved Ones, I didn’t exactly love it either. Overall, the movie IS entertaining, so I will give it some credit for that. For myself, there were two main problems. The first is I found the lead male to be flat and not very likable. He had little to no character development, so I didn’t give a shit what happened to him. The second issue I had, was with the whole side story about his friend and the guy’s skanky date. What the hell was the purpose to any of that? I kept expecting it to lead to something, yet it never did. I suppose a third dislike came in the apparent idea that every high school kid that loses a loved one turns into some social reject, drugged out loser. Two teens in the film had family members taken from them in the recent past, and both turned into emo stoners who no longer cared about life? REALLY? Way to stereotype. But like I said, there was some entertainment to be had, especially in the form of the crazy family who kidnaps the guy, so I give it that much.

I don’t know why this movie got so much bad reviews. I totally enjoyed this movie. It has the right amount of gore, craziness, and weirdness. I highly recommend this movie to horror/gore fans out there.

I’m not sure why BD and Rotten Tomatoes thought this movie was so good. I didn’t get most of the “dark humor” and “sardonic wit”, and the torture scenes were pointless. I agree with a previous review about how there was no real character development. What was the point of this movie? And the plot “turn”? I didn’t even notice it until I read the BD review all the way through.

I loved this movie. It has the right mix of quirk, humor, sex and gore.

I also liked that this was a quick and fun movie. It kept the pace going and really didn’t dull down once.

It took me forever to find this movie but it was WELL WORTH IT. This is a fun mix of teenage problems, horror, comedy, and drama. From the trailer I thought I had this movie all figured out but near the middle it added an element I was not expecting at all. I don’t want to give the twist away but its a great twisted mixing of the genres. But I will tell you their is a wonderfully sick reason why its called THE LOVED ONES.

I had been waiting a long time to see this. I’m not usually a fan of torture/slasher flicks, but I enjoyed the twist of having a female torturer, and there was enough dark humour in a lot of the scenes that I could enjoy it at the same time as I was cringing. I do agree that the side story with the dude and his date was unnecessary – probably meant as tension relief. Overall though, its a squirmy good little film.

Official Score: 4 / 5
