Considering that this movie was coming from the same director as Martyrs, I was excited. Then when I got done watching it I realized that Pascal Laugier may be a one hit wonder. Other than the “twist” and Jessica Biel’s acting, this movie has nothing to offer. For being a “thriller” there is barely any suspense. The ENTIRE movie you are trying to figure out what’s going on and by the time you do the movie is about over and you are too bored to care. Without giving away any spoilers, this movie makes no sense. When the movie is done, you realize that the idea behind it is retarded. VERY disappointed.

Pascal Laugier is a master behind the camera. everything about the look of this movie is well crafted. The Lighting and setting is always beautiful in this movie.

He manages to give Martyrs type scares, suspense, and story about how damage causes more damage but this time from a motherly perspective. Not to mention he gives a similar effect while not having half the destruction that Martyrs had (not that i didn’t like Martyrs, i loved it in fact and own it)

at this rate it seems like anything Mr. Laugier touches turns out well. He even gets some of the best performances out of these actors that Ive seen them deliver on.

The film takes a somewhat different approach than Martyrs by adding a lot more heart and soul. and to the contrary of other reviews i think the movie never loses pace and Laugier challenges the audience by moving the film is unexpected directions. Much like Martyrs you feel that just as you thought you knew what was going on, Laugier rips the carpet out from under your feet and changes everything, including who to identify with.

With nothing but the purest intentions The Tall Man delivers in a way and in a style, telling a story about good and evil, in which i didn’t expect, was never confused about, and followed with great interest so i could figure out all these well written characters were up to and what was going on.

Absolutely looking forward to anything this man creates! 9/10 – 10/10

If you walk in expecting martyrs, you’ll be disappointed, but if you come in with an open mind about a heartfelt thriller-drama, you can’t be let down. Everything about this movie is well done, and I greatly look forward to anything Pascal Laugier is behind in the future.

This was so fantastic up until the last third of the film.. Hard to say much without giving away any spoilers – but basically, this isn’t a horror movie.

Nothing is what it seems in this dark intelligent thriller. Not your typical horror movie. It has a very powerful message and really leaves you thinking. Its not the happiest of endings but you will definitely be thinking about it long after its over.

What an intelligent little thriller. The main way to describe The Tall Man is DIFFERENT. I loved it. I wasn’t expecting any of the surprises I was treated to and it definitely exceeded my expectations. Jessica Biel gives her best performance to date and I was so invested in her character. This is a very good drama/thriller with a very powerful message. It gave me chills.

I didn’t realise that this film was directed by the same man who made “Martyrs” until I read the posts around here. “The Tall Man” isn’t “Martyrs”, so I can understand that someone watching it with the wrong expectations gets disappointed. Nonetheless this film and its script are very well done. The story takes its time to unfold, and several scenes within the first twenty minutes have something of a Stephen King picturisation to them (in a good sense). Unlike in many other flicks, the plot twists don’t feel forced — they fall into place, for example the guests’ behaviour at the nocturnal diner. Ms Biel’s performance is excellent, and at least for me her good, non-generic looks are a further bonus.

The Ultimate Movie Review! – http://tss5078.blogspot.com – @tss5078 – The Tall Man tries very hard to be something it’s not, a Stephen King story. Parts of this film reek with King’s influence, but I don’t think he’d be all that thrilled about it. When the film first started I thought it was a pretty good movie, but by the end I was just confused. The story follows a local resident in the town of Cold Rock, who has taken over her husband’s medical practice after he passed away. That resident is played by Jessica Biel, whose performance and looks are really the only reason to watch this movie. In the town of Cold Rock, the children have been disappearing without a trace and the only thing people have seen is a tall man, dressed in black, leaving the scene. Some people say he’s an urban legend, while others claim to have witnessed his abductions, and the whole town is terrified. I found it kind of funny that in a town crippled by fear, not knowing whose child could be next, the kids parents, let them ride their bikes to the store and let them play alone in the fields, it’s just one of many parts of this film that just off. As I said, the beginning of this film is terrific, but then it gets weirder and weirder and builds to a conclusion that doesn’t make any damn sense! I know this must of have been someone’s passion and that they spent years developing it, but before you released it to the public, did you bother to watch it? Jessica Biel is sexy and a terrific actress who is way too good to be doing shitty b-movies like this. If you’re a die-hard fan, check it out, she’s great, but if you’re not, I’d definitely stay away from this one.
