Our friends at Collider caught up with the overextended Guillermo del Toro who shared a brief update on his version of Walt Disney’s The Haunted Mansion. In short, he’s playing the waiting game…again. “I delivered my last draft five weeks ago,” he tells the site. “I have a meeting with them in three weeks. I know they like the screenplay. I need to meet with them in three weeks. That’s what I know. I know their reaction to the draft was good. We have a bunch of conceptualist art, but you never know, to predict anything else is hard for me to know.” He also reveals that he never intended on directing, which comes as a shock. “I came on board originally as a writer and producer, the decision I think they may be waiting, is for me to say I’m directing the movie. Or am I directing it next, which is too early for me to know what I’m doing next in live-action. I’m in the middle of Pacific Rim and I don’t know what I’m going to do next.” READ MORE
The term “family horror film” is enough to send any hardened genre fan running in the opposite direction, but over the last few decades a slew of family horror classics like “Gremlins”, “The Witches”, “Something Wicked This Way Comes”, and “Ghost Busters” have proven to be as enjoyable for adults as they have for children. Recent worthy additions to the sub-genre have presented themselves most often in the form of animated features, with “Coraline”, “The Corpse Bride” and “Monster House” being three of the most notable. Ever since it was first announced a couple of years ago, fans of genre legend Guillermo del Toro have been eagerly anticipating his adaptation of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein”, although not much in the way of actual news has been reported since. READ MORE
While most of the geek planet celebrates the Hellboy franchise, I find both installment’s incredibly weak (although I prefer the second). Still, I welcome a third film with open arms in hopes that it’ll continually get better. While a Hellboy 3 has ben long in the back of Guillermo del Toro’s mind, comic book creator Mike Mignola tells Movieweb that the Mexican director wouldn’t direct if it were to ever go behind cameras. UPDATE: Derek Frey, producer and executive at Tim Burton Productions, has told The Playlist there is “no truth to the rumor” and expressed gratitude for squashing the rumor quickly. An unnamed source over at Dread Central claims to have spoken directly with Paul “Pee Wee Herman” Reubens regarding his forthcoming East Coast stage show. When asked if Reubens would ever work again with director Tim Burton – who directed Pee Wee’s Big Adventure – he revealed that Burton is (finally) secretly working on a sequel to his stop-motion masterpiece The Nightmare Before Christmas! A sequel has been long rumored, and to be frank, it’s absolutely shocking (and appalling) to me that one has yet to go into production. Disney is all about merchandising – and Nightmare Before Christmas has more merch than any fan can even digest. And who knows, maybe a sequel could inspire Disney to develop a theme park attraction that’s not just a season revamp of “The Haunted Mansion”? (more…) READ MORE
The best news to break at the San Diego Comic-Con was that Guillermo del Toro would be directing a remake of Disney’s The Haunted Mansion, a “scary” version of the theme park ride that takes tourists through an creepy old mansion loaded with singing ghouls, ghosts and witches (more here). After Del Toro made the announcement, Disney supplied Bloody Disgusting with a look at the teaser logo on display the Con. Dig on it below. “Millions of people from around the world visit The Haunted Mansion each year, but no one has ever had a tour guide like Guillermo del Toro,” said Rich Ross, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “Guillermo is one of the most gifted and innovative filmmakers working today and he is going to take audiences on a visually-thrilling journey like they’ve never experienced before.” (more…) READ MORE

We’re testing out a new column here at Bloody-Disgusting and our beloved writer Brian Juergens will be doing a bi-weekly story entitled The Premature Burial, which is a review for an upcoming film based on only the images. He reviews it based on what he thinks is going to happen in the film. This weeks review is for Sony Screen Gems’ Boogeyman and is called “Horror Films Don’t Stand a Chance. Not One. Literally.” Read on and check it… (more…) READ MORE
