A horrifying, realistic, powerful film that will cause quiet a few nightmares. This film is very well done. Its completely realistic and the entire film I felt like I was watching a real documentary. Another great thing about this film is it finally does what so many other found footage movie haven’t done in the past and actually starts off pretty quickly. With most found footage films its an hour and 20 min of nothing and then 10 min of horror. The entire film is deeply unsettling and filled with horror and gore. I was swept up in the story right away. And this film is filled with some of the most disturbing visuals of the last few years. This movie will have people terrified to drink a glass of water and Im sure it will cause people to be more concerned with the water supply. I really enjoyed seeing Kristen Connolly from The Cabin In The Woods. The acting is amazing, the effects are great, and the story is truly horrifying. IT’S A TERRIFYING HORROR SHOW and quiet emotional to watch. I really felt for all of the characters. DONT MISS THIS MOVIE! Its by far my favorite outbreak movie since 2010′s The Crazies. A
Just finished watching this on VOD and wow, I was very much surprised. When I first saw the trailer I thought it didn’t look that great, basically a found footage version on Contagion. Which I guess essentially it was. But in all honesty, I found this way better and terrifying than Contagion. Obviously the whole footage is fake but there were instances were it seemed pretty damn real. I don’t want to get too much into the plot in order for others to keep the shock going when viewing it. But all I’m gonna say is that it will definitely cause people to be a bit more cautious about going into the water, and will even have some doing research on things that were brought up in the film.
8/10
i just watched this and there’s barely any shaky cam in this!! it’s mostly done with stationary cams. this movie is DEFINITELY above just about any shaky cam movie i’ve ever seen. Levinson has deftly handled this perfectly. i was on the edge of my seat for most of this movie.
i really liked this film. the sense of dread that starts nearly immediately into the movie just builds and builds. i normally dislike found footage movies because of the shaky cam deal but also because it’s usually impossible to get invested in what’s going on. not the case with THE BAY.
i’m a bit shocked i liked this movie as much as i do but it’s VERY good. i give it an 8 out of 10.
also even though the trailer almost makes it seem like infected become zombies/zombie-like that’s not the case. i higly recommend this movie!
I wasn’t expecting The Bay to be good, but it’s easily one of the better horror movies of 2012. It’s a realistic infection movie with a sense of dread and mystery throughout. Do not miss out on watching this movie.
I was pleasantly surprised by this. It creeped me out more than I thought it would. While it doesn’t have the traditional scares of most horror films, The Bay really gets under your skin – or in it, to be truthful. The idea is nice; a neat little environmental disaster that really sounds plausible. Add in the fact that these type of parasites are real, and your mind can begin to make it seem very real – but that just may be the bugs talking. (Special effects are well done, too.)
One thing that bothered (bugged?) me was how the film tried to hold onto the “found footage” idea. It doesn’t really work to think that every bit of footage you see was “found” and uploaded to the internet. The narator even tries to explain it with each new group with such things as “they were documenting their work.” The found-footage genre works when the entire thing looks believable. Only parts of this feel that way.
That minor complaint aside, I enjoyed the film. I can’t believe BD hated it so much! It was well worth the $8 for VOD.
I saw this on VUDU this evening and had to write a quick response. Truly gruesome and scary, based on a real premise that sent shivers down my spine. I’m surprised BD’s Mr. Pereira only gave it 2 skulls. The creature effects were so well done and completely disgusting that I had to turn away during a particularly scary moment. Definitely a must see movie for those who like a documentary-style horror film. So good!

There’s been a ton of confusion in categorizing this movie. I don’t consider this to be a found footage film, but more of a faux documentary film that contains some found footage. The Bay is a horror film with a message: Stop polluting our water! But regardless of the political message, the film is done very well. It definitely creeped me out! So much so, I had to pause it halfway through to google the parasite monster thing. Which turns out to be a real thing… but it doesn’t attack you like it does in the movie… hopefully! The movie does a really great job at pulling you in and grabbing your attention. I enjoyed it and highly recommend it if your in the mood for a horror movie that makes your skin crawl.
