Crappy Family Horror Movies; Flicks You Won’t Gather Around Your Couch to Watch

The term “family horror film” is enough to send any hardened genre fan running in the opposite direction, but over the last few decades a slew of family horror classics like “Gremlins”, “The Witches”, “Something Wicked This Way Comes”, and “Ghost Busters” have proven to be as enjoyable for adults as they have for children. Recent worthy additions to the sub-genre have presented themselves most often in the form of animated features, with “Coraline”, “The Corpse Bride” and “Monster House” being three of the most notable. ‘Hellboy’ Creator Says ‘Guillermo del Toro WON’T Direct ‘Hellboy 3′

While most of the geek planet celebrates the Hellboy franchise, I find both installment’s incredibly weak (although I prefer the second). Still, I welcome a third film with open arms in hopes that it’ll continually get better. While a Hellboy 3 has ben long in the back of Guillermo del Toro’s mind, comic book creator Mike Mignola tells Movieweb that the Mexican director wouldn’t direct if it were to ever go behind cameras. RUMOR CONTROL: Tim Burton Secretly Developing ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ Sequel?

UPDATE: Derek Frey, producer and executive at Tim Burton Productions, has told The Playlist there is “no truth to the rumor” and expressed gratitude for squashing the rumor quickly. An unnamed source over at Dread Central claims to have spoken directly with Paul “Pee Wee Herman” Reubens regarding his forthcoming East Coast stage show. When asked if Reubens would ever work again with director Tim Burton – who directed Pee Wee’s Big Adventure – he revealed that Burton is (finally) secretly working on a sequel to his stop-motion masterpiece The Nightmare Before Christmas! A sequel has been long rumored, and to be frank, it’s absolutely shocking (and appalling) to me that one has yet to go into production. Disney is all about merchandising – and Nightmare Before Christmas has more merch than any fan can even digest. And who knows, maybe a sequel could inspire Disney to develop a theme park attraction that’s not just a season revamp of “The Haunted Mansion”? (more…) READ MORE

After Del Toro made the announcement, Disney supplied Bloody Disgusting with a look at the teaser logo on display the Con. Dig on it below. “Millions of people from around the world visit The Haunted Mansion each year, but no one has ever had a tour guide like Guillermo del Toro,” said Rich Ross, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “Guillermo is one of the most gifted and innovative filmmakers working today and he is going to take audiences on a visually-thrilling journey like they’ve never experienced before.(more…) READ MORE

Since Fangoria announced the other day that Rob Zombie would direct the next Halloween, everyone has been in a constant frenzy trying to figure out what’s going on. You Need This Now: ‘Satan’s 3-Ring Circus of Hell’ TPB

I did some small coverage of the cool stuff I came across at this years San Diego Comic Con (here) a few weeks back, and I just finished reading R.S. Rhine’s Satan’s 3-Ring Circus of Hell book and felt it needed another plug here on B-D. This 256 mega-beast of a trade paper back is loaded with tons of hilarious horror stories and fantastic artwork that any horror fan would love to have- especially fans of Tales from the Crypt and The Twilight Zone. These short stories are twisted, demented and make sure that they end as (un)pleasant as you would wish. Read on for previews from the book and make sure you go and pick this sucker up… (more…) READ MORE
