Greg Nicotero‘s role with AMC is expanding as the Emmy-winning special effects artist on AMC’s “The Walking Dead” has inked a first-look deal to develop projects for the cable network, reports THR. Under the pact, Nicotero – who took home an Emmy on Saturday for his prosthetic makeup for the zombie series – has been named co-executive producer on the drama starring Andrew Lincoln. He’ll also direct an episode during Season 2, which premieres next month. READ MORE

A film being pushed at this year’s Cannes is Blood: A Butcher’s Tale, which is being directed by Mark Tuit. Starring Emily Perkins (Ginger Snaps, Juno) Aaron Douglas (I Robot, Shattered), Kim Coates (The Island, Silent Hill) and Christa Campbell (Day of the Dead, 2001 Maniacs), the film is the harrowing tale of Sam, a simple butcher, who discovers that the love of his life is being seduced by a vampire. Bent on vengeance, Sam sets out to cleanse the world of the monsters that took from him his only love. In a rash of mean spirited films it seems only appropriate that Stuart Gordon has finally gotten his film Stuck off the ground, which he co-wrote with John Strysik. Today we’ve been informed that production has official began through Amicus Entertainment in New Brunswick, Canada and have also been supplied with a massive cast listing, with a couple of surprises! Variety reports that Paramount Pictures wants to bring the Day of the Dead to life. They aren’t talking about a remake to Romero’s film, they are talking about the Mexican holiday, “Day of the Dead festivities in Mexico actually take place on two days — Nov. 1 (All Saints Day) and Nov. 2 (All Souls Day). The events combine Catholic observances with those of indigenous peoples who believe the souls of the dead return each year to visit their living relatives.” Wait, why in gods name are you reading this?
