Horror In Your House: February 28th, 2012

Published

on

This week doesn’t bring much in the way of releases outside of the Dennis Quaid vehicle, Beneath the Darkness, which pretty much no one liked. The Israeli horror flick, Rabies, looks to be the best film out (though I haven’t seen it) of the bunch. It’s garnered mostly positive reviews since its North American premier at Tribeca last year.

Are you picking up anything this week? I’m skipping purchases this week and trying to watch all the Starz movies in my Netflix Instant queue before they expire on March 1st. Horror In Your House
February 28th, 2012

BABY YAGA (Blu-ray) – Blue Underground

Legendary sex symbol Carroll Baker (Baby Doll, The Wathcer In The Woods) stars as a mysterious sorceress with an undying hunger for sensual ecstasy and unspeakable torture. But when she casts a spell over a beautiful young fashion photographer (the gorgeous Isabelle De Funes), Milan’s most luscious models are sucked into a nightmare world of lesbian seduction and shocking sadism. Are these carnal crimes the result of one woman’s forbidden fantasies or is this the depraved curse of the devil witch known as Baba Yaga?

BENEATH THE DARKNESS (DVD/Blu-ray) – Image Entertainment

Ely Vaughn (Dennis Quaid) is a pillar of the community in tiny Smithville, Texas. The town’s mortician, Ely has been revered since his days as the high school’s star quarterback. But since the tragic death of his wife two years earlier, Ely has withdrawn from his neighbors, while local teens spread stories of supernatural goings on at Ely’s mansion—which is also the funeral home.

EL MONSTRO DEL MAR! – Vicious Circle Films

Three gorgeous but deadly hired killers, Beretta, Blondie and Snowball, hole up in a small beachside community to keep a low profile. But this town has a dark secret. The local old sea baron, Joseph, tries desperately to warn them to never go into the water. But these crazy vixens listen to no one. So the Kraken awakes! Now, along with Joseph and his beautiful granddaughter, Hannah, they must fight for their lives against this furious creature of the deep as the sea rises in a tidal wave of blood!

RABIES – Image Entertainment

A brother and sister in their twenties run away from home after their dark secret is discovered. They find temporary refuge in a deserted nature reserve. When the sister falls into a hunting trap, set by a psychotic killer, the brother sets out in a race against time to rescue her. A forest ranger and his old dog, two apathetic cops, four tennis players and a murderer, wandering carefree amongst his traps, will all be gradually drawn into a whirlwind of misunderstandings, fears and violence.

MICAH SAYS: A little trivia: Israeli’s first horror film. It’s billed as a Slasher/Comedy. And it’s my default PICK OF THE WEEK.

WOLF TOWN – First Look Pictures

Kyle, a shy college student finds himself and three of his friends trapped in an old western ghost town by a pack of ferocious wolves and has to overcome his personal fears to confront the wolves and lead his friends to safety.

Sydney Sweeney horror

After making an impressive $21 million at the worldwide box office, NEON’s new horror movie Immaculate starring Sydney Sweeney has surprise-released at home this week.

Beginning today, Immaculate is now available for digital purchase ($19.99) and rental ($9.99)! We’ve also learned that the film is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on June 11, 2024.

The home release comes on the heels of Immaculate’s massive success at the United States box office, quickly becoming an audience favorite, grossing over $15.2mm and counting, and remaining in the U.S. box office top 10 for three weeks. The Blu-ray and DVD will feature a commentary track from director Michael Mohan, NEON has let us know this morning.

The horror film reunites Sydney Sweeney with director Michael Mohan (The Voyeurs), who directed from a script by Andrew LobelSweeney stars in Immaculate as Cecilia, a woman of devout faith who is offered a fulfilling new role at an illustrious Italian convent.

“Her warm welcome to the picture-perfect Italian countryside is soon interrupted as it becomes clearer to Cecilia that her new home harbors some dark and horrifying secrets.”

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review for Bloody Disgusting, “Sydney Sweeney is this familiar religious horror movie’s saving grace. Sister Cecilia is a doe-eyed innocent whose unlikely circumstances force her into a tremendously satisfying arc. She attempts to outmaneuver a powerful foe, and when things really go off the rails, Sweeney plunges headfirst into a primal ferocity that leads to one bold, crowd-cheering conclusion.”
