First Batch of Stills From Hammer Films’ ‘The Wake Wood’
Receiving a lot of praise at this past November’s AFM was Hammer Films’ The Wake Wood, which stars Aidan Gillen, Eva Birthistle and Timothy Spall. While we still have no release info here in the States, we’ve been provided with the first batch of stills from David Keating’s thriller. Still grieving the death of nine-year-old Alice – their only child – at the jaws of a crazed dog, vet Patrick and pharmacist Louise relocate to the remote town of Wake Wood where they learn of a pagan ritual that will allow them three more days with Alice. The couple find the idea disturbing and exciting in equal measure, but once they agree terms with Arthur, the village’s leader, a far bigger question looms – what will they do when it’s time for Alice to go back?

‘The Devil’s Bath’ – Shudder Sets Release Date for Horror Movie from ‘Goodnight Mommy’ Filmmakers
Austrian filmmakers Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala (The Lodge, Goodnight Mommy) are back with new horror movie The Devil’s Bath, and it’s coming to Shudder this summer.
The Devil’s Bath debuts on Shudder June 28, Variety reports today.
The film makes its North American premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for the German-language horror movie: “In 1750 Austria, a deeply religious woman named Agnes has just married her beloved, but her mind and heart soon grow heavy as her life becomes a long list of chores and expectations. Day after day, she is increasingly trapped in a murky and lonely path leading to evil thoughts, until the possibility of committing a shocking act of violence seems like the only way out of her inner prison.”
Anja Plaschg, David Scheid, Maria Hofstätter, Camilla Schielin, and Lorenz Tröbinger star. You can check out a first look image above. Expect the trailer in the coming weeks.
The filmmakers tell Variety, “We want to see the world how it is, and that’s of course sometimes very difficult and painful, but I think we owe it to ourselves and other human beings to be honest about everything that’s not great in the world. Many movies just depict the world as a humongous place that’s amazing to live in. We think sometimes that’s not true and feel the responsibility to look into those pieces.”
The Devil’s Bath is produced by Heimatfilm Productions and Ulrich Seidl Productions as a co-production with Heimatfilm and Coop99 Filmproduktion.
