Published

on

Audiences will experience thrills and chills from the franchise that brought the epic battle of man and nature to life as Lionsgate debuts the Mimic: 3-Film Set on Blu-ray Disc May 1st.

Available for the first time as an HD collection, the set includes Mimic: The Director’s Cut, along with Mimic 2 and the Rear Window-inspired Mimic 3: Sentinel – both on Blu-ray Disc for the first time and available exclusively in the set.

Telling the complete story of one deadly genetic engineering experiment, each film includes a host of special features, certain to excite and terrify fans of the sci-fi series. A collection housing all three of the original film versions will be available on DVD at the same time, for the suggested retail price of $19.98. Mimic: The Director’s Cut: Directed by Oscar® nominee Guillermo Del Toro (Best Writing, Original Screenplay, Pan’s Labyrinth, 2006), this cut transforms Mimic into a film that Del Toro fans and newcomers alike will embrace as the definitive version. The film stars Academy Award® winner* Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite) and Academy Award® nominee* Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) along with Jeremy Northam (Showtime’s “The Tudors”). The disc includes a video prologue and audio commentary with Guillermo Del Toro, numerous featurettes, deleted scenes, storyboard animatics and a gag reel.

The screenplay and screen story are written by Matthew Robbins & Guillermo Del Toro, based on the short story by Matthew A. Wollheim.

A disease carried by common cockroaches is killing children in Manhattan. In an effort to stop the epidemic, entomologist Susan Tyler (Sorvino) creates a mutant breed of insect that secretes a fluid to kill the roaches. This mutant breed was engineered to die after one generation, but three years later Susan finds out that the species has survived and evolved into a large, gruesome monster that can mimic human form.

*Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Mighty Aphrodite, 1995
*Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Milk, 2008

Mimic 2: Four years ago, a group of scientists successfully stopped a plague that threatened to overrun the population of New York City. Though all of the “Judas” bugs were thought to be dead, those that survived have undergone another terrible transformation and are once again threatening human life. The disc includes a couple of featurettes and deleted scenes.

The film is directed by Jean de Segonzac and written by Joel Soisson, based on characters created by Matthew Robbins & Guillermo Del Toro.

Mimic 3: Sentinel: When residents of an apartment complex begin to disappear, the unthinkable happens – the mutant Judas bugs are again stalking their prey. Left nearly helpless, a man enclosed in a plastic bubble, his sister and their best friend have no choice but to exterminate their insect enemies. The disc includes audio commentary with the writer/director, a behind-the-scenes featurette and cat auditions.

Written and Directed by J.T. Petty, based on the short story “Mimic” by Donald A. Wollheim.
