‘Resident Evil: Revelations’ Review: From The Depths

Fans of Capcom’s longstanding survival horror turned action horror turned action adventure franchise Resident Evil have been through a lot. It’s an audience that’s definitely grown over the years, but in doing so it’s also become fragmented. There are what I like to refer to as the “purists” who want the series to return to its roots, the “Boyalists” who don’t mind a little extra action in their Resident Evil soup, and finally, the “loyalists” who are happy with the series any way they can get it. The latter group will enjoy Operation Raccoon City just as much as Code Veronica, simply because it’s Resident Evil.

Whichever group you proudly declare yourself a member of, Resident Evil: Revelations offers something for everyone. Find out if its transition to consoles makes for a “definitive” version or whether you should stick with its handheld sibling, in my review.

I Want This Life-Size Nemesis Bust Right Now

Hollywood Collectibles recently unveiled a new addition to their store, and it has a face only a mother could love. Okay, fine, I love it too. Standing at 28″ tall and 26″ wide, this life-size Nemesis bust is made of fiberglass and hand painted with an extraordinary attention to detail. It looks intimidating, but I think it’s safe to say the scariest thing about it is its $800 price tag. That’s like, 800 Mountain Dews.

In related news, my birthday is coming up and since none of you bought me anything last year, this would be a mighty good way of making that up to me. If you do, I’m willing to share pictures of Nemmy — that’s what I’ll call him, Nemmy — and my first date. I’m thinking Chinese food and a horror movie. Do you think Nemmy would mind if we watched Resident Evil?

Have Another Look At ‘Sir, You Are Being Hunted’

If you aren’t excited for Big Robot’s upcoming “tweedpunk robo-horror” game Sir, You Are Being Hunted, then I’m not doing my job right. In it, you’re being hunted by classy English robots who smoke pipes and bleep, bloop about the British countryside. It’s one of the most original indie games I’ve seen so far, and the way it mixes dark, quirky humor with horror is really rather impressive.

So why don’t you slip into a velvet bathrobe, sink real deep into that giant recliner and take a puff out of your big oak pipe, because I’m about to hand-feed you some new gameplay, dipped in love.

Indie Horror ‘The Legend’ Launches Funding Campaign

Last week, the Slender Man inspired indie horror game The Legend was green-lit on Steam. Today, developer Elder Productions has launched a crowd-funding campaign via Indiegogo to get the funds they need to make it the best game ever. I hope they succeed, because the game looks great. More after the break.

[Indie Horror Spotlight] 50 Shades Of Slender Man

In this very special – how special? This special (you can’t see it, but my arms are really wide right now) – episode of ‘Adam Plays’, where I don’t actually play anything. The angry, ancient Halo 4-obsessed man that is my father plays Slender: The Arrival, and, get this, Slender Man nearly catches him after the first page.

If you like watching an old man awkwardly maneuver around doors for 14 minutes while yelling at the computer because his character doesn’t run fast enough, the scariest thing about this video is how much I think you’re going to love it.

Gamers Aren’t Very Excited About The Xbox One

Unless you’ve been living in the mountains, under a rock, perhaps in a city in the sky, or stranded on an island then you know about the recently announced Xbox One. I’ve got to be honest, I’m pretty jacked for the new Xbox. And the new Playstation. And really why shouldn’t I be? We are creeping up slowly on 8 years since our last big system upgrades. It’s time for something new. Technology is moving so fast and has come so far in the past 10 years. However, a decent amount of gamers don’t see it that way. In a poll by UK based website VoucherCodesPro 52% of the 1,112 gamers that took the poll were “underwhelmed” by the reveal. Head past the break to see the full results.

Every Xbox One Game We Know Of So Far

Microsoft’s Xbox One reveal was lacking any real video game news, which is understandable since they’re saving all that for E3 next month. That doesn’t mean we don’t have a good idea of what’s coming to the console. After the break you’ll find a (work in progress) list of games you can expect to see on the Xbox One.

Remedy Talks ‘Alan Wake 2,’ Humble Bundle And Xbox 360 Sale

This is a classy move. At the Xbox One reveal Remedy unveiled their next big game, Quantum Break. It looks incredible, and while I’m always happy to get a new game from one of my favorite game developers, there was an undeniable sting of disappointment I felt when I realized this means Alan Wake 2 isn’t coming — at least not yet.

Remedy creative director Sam Lake knows we want a sequel, and in the video you can watch after the jump he discusses Alan Wake’s potential return, along with a gift from Remedy to their fans for being so understanding.

‘Metro: Last Light’ DLC Incoming, First Pack Available In June

Oh, you’re still here? You’re not a burning, irradiated husk right now? Good for you. In case you haven’t heard already, Metro: Last Light is like, really, really good. If you’ve beaten the game and find yourself itching — as in craving, not the itch you feel as the nuclear radiation seeps itself deep down into your bones, which it’s almost definitely doing right now — to return to the metro, soon, you’ll be able to.

4A Games is working on four A-quality (see what I did there? Professional writer here, no big deal) DLC packs, starting with the Faction pack next month. Deets after the break.

‘Dead Island’ Dev Reveals Next-Gen Horror Game ‘Dying Light’

Techland, the makers of Dead Island, are working on a brand new horror game for current and next-gen consoles. It’s called Dying Light, and it has you surviving in a tropical setting, fighting off zombies with the weapons you craft… wait. This sounds familiar.

Okay, yes, Dying Light shares some rather striking similarities to Techland’s past work, but what sets this game apart is its new Mirror’s Edge-esque free-running system — which you’ll need to master in order to escape the monsters that hunt you — as well as a dynamic day/night cycle that plays a key role in the gameplay. For example, during the day you’ll need to scavenge for supplies while fighting off the slow zombies that roam about when it’s light outside. When the sun sets, the zombies become more dangerous, and new creatures come out to play. First look after the break.

An Amazing Recap Of The Xbox One Unveiling

The Xbox One reveal was a confusing mess that angered about as many people as it confused. The Confusing Aftermath Of The Xbox One Reveal

Yesterday, Microsoft revealed the Xbox One, an all-in-one gaming, er, entertainment console that brings together television, sports, and Call of Duty. Once the announcements were made and the dust had settled, people started getting angry. Why would Microsoft court the enthusiast press — the people whose job it is to inform those who are most likely to be early adopters — for days prior to the event, then only barely mention video games in the reveal of a gaming console?

I’m sure Microsoft wanted to get the business stuff out of the way so they could save the exiciting video game reveals for E3, and I understand that, but their confusing presentation was a very public — and rather spectacular — stumble that’s going to be difficult to recover from.

New ‘Call Of Duty: Ghosts’ Trailer, DLC Coming To Xbox One First

Like past installments in this generation’s biggest game franchise, Call of Duty: Ghosts will be multi-platform, but during the Xbox One reveal it was confirmed that Microsoft’s console will be getting DLC first. That’s unsurprising, seeing as Activision and Microsoft have struck similar deals with previous Call of Duty games. If you like your explosions next-gen, you’re going to love the trailer I have waiting for you after the break.

It’s not quite as pretty as I would have expected. I think it’s safe to say Battlefield 4 is ahead of it visually, but when it comes to dog mo-cap technology, Ghosts is really second to none.

‘Alan Wake’ Dev Reveals ‘Quantum Break’ For Xbox One

Did you hear? The Xbox One was revealed, and boy oh boy does it look sexy. Sadly, not many games were announced during Microsoft’s event. In fact, only one new IP was unveiled, and that was from Remedy Entertainment, the studio that brought us Max Payne and Alan Wake. If you were hoping for a big Alan Wake 2 reveal, I’m going to go ahead and clip your wings right now. Our favorite writer might still have a game in the works, but for now, Remedy is focused on a new game called Quantum Break.

What exactly, is Quantum Break? Hell if I know. All I know is it’s beautiful, has something to do with “Mastering time to survive the present and save the future,” and in some way revolves around a little girl who has mysterious powers that may or may not have something to do with ships crashing into bridges. Screens and a trailer after the jump.

Everything You Need To Know About The Xbox One

Today, Microsoft revealed their next console, dubbed the Xbox One. Their unveiling took the opposite approach to Sony’s, as they shied away from big video game reveals in favor of system specs, apps, the upgraded Kinect, new controller, and sports. Lots of sports.

Artist Uses Sony’s Tease To Construct PlayStation 4

Yesterday, Sony teased us with a glimpse of what the PlayStation 4 will look like. It didn’t reveal much, more a bunch of close-up shots and a blurry rectangle, but that seems to have been enough for Redditor Albino-Zebra to construct a concept of what the console could look like. They could be spot on, or way off — we won’t know for sure until Sony reveals their console on June 10. I have to say, it looks pretty snazzy. Check it out after the jump.

What Do You Want From The Next Xbox?

Will it be dubbed the Xbox Infinity, or just Xbox? Will those scary rumors of a required constant Internet connection be confirmed, or were they just that, rumors? What will Microsoft do to squash their competition? Supposedly, the console’s big reveal will bring with it a slew of big exclusives — will that include the long-teased Alan Wake 2? I sure hope so.

So many questions, and really no answers. Yet. With only a few hours left to wait, what would you like to see from the next Xbox?

‘DreadOut’ Indiegogo Campaign Ends With Full Funding

A few days ago I wasn’t sure whether DreadOut’s Indiegogo campaign would receive the funding they asked for. With only a couple days left in the campaign, they were still 20% short of their $25k goal. Thankfully, horror fans pulled through and the campaign ended this weekend with a little over $29k. That means two ambitious indie horror games have had successful crowd-funding campaigns in the last week — Among the Sleep’s Kickstarter ended last Friday after receiving nearly $250k.

Sony Teases Design Of PlayStation 4

Tomorrow morning, Microsoft will reveal their follow-up to the Xbox 360 — and yes, I’ll be here to excitedly fill you in as it happens. Sony knows this, so to lure some of the spotlight away from their biggest competitor they’ve unveiled a brief tease of an impending unveiling of what the PlayStation 4 console will look like. Sure, that sentence made sense.

The console’s design was surprisingly absent when Sony first unveiled it back in February, leaving many of us to wonder whether it’s design would mess with the delicate balance of our living room’s feng shui. Unfortunately, we still don’t have an answer to that. What we do have is a batch of close-ups and a blurry teaser, both of which you can enjoy after the jump.

A few days ago we were given a tease of the trailer for the upcoming Warner Bros developed prequel, Batman: Arkham Origins, and now, the full trailer has emerged from the shadows of the Internet to punch you squarely in the face with five minutes of pure awesome.

I’ve already watched it twice, because I’m a geek and I like watching guys flip, spin, and beat the crap out of each other while tossing out the random gruff one-liner so their opponent knows their superhero suit is isn’t nearly as cool as what they have on. I could totally keep going, but I’m positive 99% of you have already skimmed past my ramblings so you can watch the trailer. Thanks for that.

The Dual Shock 4 Controller Gets ‘Diablo III’ed’

There’s no doubt that you can’t just take Diablo III and throw it on a console. It has to be carefully and gently taken over and reformed a bit. And one thing that really needs forming is the whole controller situation. Because you have a lot more possibilities with a keyboard, transferring all those key strokes to a controller takes some finesse. Since Diablo III is also coming to the Playstation 4, there is that magical new touch pad sitting so comfortably on the top of the new Dual Shock 4 controller that will also be used to make playing the game easier and more interesting. Head past the break to check out a developer diary and learn all about it. There are no console release dates yet for Diablo III.

New ‘Dark’ Gameplay Trailer Shows You Sneakin’ And Creepin’

On June 11th you’ll be able to get your hands on a rare item. That rare item is a vampire game. In this latest game play trailer you do what vampires do best. Sneak around and kill people. I’m a little weary that Dark could get boring however because all the game play I’ve seen is filled with creeping. Don’t get me wrong, vampires are all about stealth but we don’t want it to feel repetitive and get boring after the first hour. Check out the video past the break and don’t forget, June 11th, PC and Xbox 360 only.
