Rockstar’s ‘Manhunt’ Stalks PSN May 14th

Rockstar Games has been a consistent source of truly gritty gaming experiences over the years. Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne — they’re all ultra-violent story-driven games that aren’t quite like anything else out there. They were undeniably dark, yet they pale in comparison to the controversial stealth horror Manhunt series. It never really found the critical or commercial reception required to become a successful series, but that didn’t keep it from finding a substantial cult following.

Soon, you’ll be able to sneak up behind and suffocate more unsuspecting goons with plastic bags when the original Manhunt re-releases on the PS3′s PlayStation Store on May 14th for $9.99. No word yet on whether or not its sequel will be making the same transition.

‘The Forest’ Is ‘The Descent’ Meets ‘Cannibal Holocaust’

Another horror game recently made its way onto Steam Greenlight, but this one isn’t quite like the rest. It’s an open world survival horror game that places you in a forest, alone, unarmed, and with a population of freaky pale cannibals that would very much like to eat you alive. You’ll need to learn how to start a fire, construct a shelter, and scavenge for food in order to survive. Even if you master that part, you’ll have to either hide from or defend against the forest’s hostile inhabitants. More after the jump, including a debut trailer.

5 Brutal Ways To Die In Horror Games!

A while back Lonnie, Bloody Disgusting’s resident comics guru, listed the 10 most brutal deaths in comics. This got me thinking about the myriad horrible ways I’ve died in video games over the years. Fast forward about a year and I’ve finally got around to listing the most brutal, gory and downright embarrassing ways I’ve died in horror games. There is obviously a very deep well to take from, but I believe I’ve found a pretty solid bunch of traumatizing deaths my increasingly fragile psyche has had to endure over the years.

Check out my picks — including videos, so you can re-live each death with me — after the break, and feel free to offer your own in the comments!

Capcom is bringing Resident Evil: Revelations to every serious gaming platform later this month, but the console Capcom looks to be pushing the hardest is the Wii U. Where the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Revelations bring with them a few new features and remastered visuals, the Wii U version offers all that and a couple exclusive features that make full use of the console’s unique controller and Miiverse, all of which you can see in the trailer I have waiting for you beyond the break.

Gorge Yourself On Nine Amazing Minutes Of Footage From The ‘Eternal Darkness’ Sequel

Released in 2002, Eternal Darkness is a survival horror game that developed a strong cult following, yet despite critical acclaim, it never saw the sequel it deserved. That is, until now. (cue Inception trailer sound)

Shadow of the Eternals is an episodic horror game that is being referred to as a “spiritual successor” by developer Precursor Games, but one look at the art style, gameplay, story and characters, and it looks like everything fans have been asking for from a “true sequel” for years. Silicon Knights’ and Precursor founder Denis Dyack recently sat down with IGN to debut a nine minute gameplay demo — currently a work in progress — which you can watch after the break.

John Carpenter Is Interested In Making A ‘Dead Space’ Film

In a recent interview with Game Informer, horror director John Carpenter (The Thing, Halloween, I’m sure you’re already very familiar with him) revealed that he’d like to bring EA’s action horror franchise Dead Space to the big screen. He spoke specifically about the first game, saying “I maintain that Dead Space would just make a great movie because you have these people coming onto an abandoned, shut-down space ship and they have to start it up and something’s on board. It’s just great stuff.”

“The first game was more – I guess it was like Alien – but not quite. It was a little different than that.” he continued. The original Dead Space was released in 2008 and set on the Necromorph infested USG Ishimura, a spaceship used to crack asteroids and harvest the precious resources within them.

The 5 Best ‘Resident Evil’ Games!

With Revelations coming to nearly every console on the planet in just three short weeks (May 21), I’ve been thinking — what are the best Resident Evil games? I wanted to rank the entire series, but then I remembered there are significantly more games in Capcom’s legendary horror franchise then there are in Silent Hill. I’ll also freely admit I haven’t played every game released to-date, nor do I have the time (or the will) to go through the few I missed to see where they place.

So, out of sheer laziness, I decided to choose the five best games and rank them from “worst” to best. Check out my list after the break, and feel free to disagree and offer your own in the comments! READ MORE

The game will follow soldiers who shoot bad people, only this time, the good guys are masked.

Lay down your pitchforks Call of Duty fans, I’m only joking. This one actually sounds promising, since they’re finally using a new engine that will bring the experience to current and next-gen consoles. “We’re building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players.” said Mark Rubin, the studio’s executive producer. We all know Techland. They brought us the wonderful Dead Island. But now they’re switching things up a bit and bringing you a first person slasher where you fight against the armies of hell. The game looks like a much more demonic version of a Skyrim or Oblivion. And there’s looting. Maybe one of my favorite things ever. My friends despise me for my extra time spent looting. You can enjoy the campaign on your own, or you and up to 3 others can play against each other white fighting each other monsters and racking up points.
