Via Vision Set to Release Some Martial Arts, Some Hammer Horror and Some 80’s Action on Blu-ray!

Australia’s Via Vision Entertainment has a fun lineup of releases coming to Blu-ray on October 5th, including some world-wide debuts. If you’ve been following me here at Bloody Disgusting you may have picked up on the fact that I talk about Via Vision Entertainment quite often. They release a lot of great stuff on Blu-ray, some of which either isn’t available in the US or includes bonus material missing from the US releases. And the best part? Almost all of Via Vision’s releases are region free, meaning you can watch them in the US on your US Blu-ray player!

Via Vision’s October releases include three titles that have already been released in the US – Blue Thunder, True Legend and The Gorgon -plus one title making it’s worldwide Blu-ray debut – Scream of Fear. While Scream of Fear is the title I’m most excited for since it’s not available anywhere else in the world, the Blue Thunder release sounds very promising as it comes with a documentary and an audio commentary. If you have the US Blu-ray release of Blue Thunder then you know that release is sadly bare bones.

Watch the Blue Thunder trailer because that’s always fun and then check out the release details below!

The Gorgon
Christopher Lee stars in The Gorgon, one of two Hammer Horror classics released on Blu-ray. Lee, in one of his great performances, plays a professor investigating the mystery surrounding the suicide of a young artist in a German town prone to strange events. People are being turned to stone by a monster whose lair is hidden within a foreboding castle.

Scream of Fear
The claustrophobic thriller Scream of Fear remains one of the underrated examples of Hammer atmosphere and hysteria from the early 1960s. Christopher Lee rated it as the best film Hammer ever made. After her mother dies, a woman confined to a wheelchair, is forced to move in with her father, a man she has not seen in many years. However, when she arrives he is away on an urgent business matter. She soon becomes convinced that her stepmother has a murderous agenda. The Blu-ray of Scream of Fear is a worldwide premiere.

True Legend
Yuen Woo-ping, the legendary martial arts choreographer of Kill Bill, The Matrix and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, returns to the director’s chair with the epic True Legend. Betrayed by his adopted-brother and left for dead, a retired warrior embarks on a journey of salvation and revenge to rescue his abducted son in this spectacular big budget Wuxia. The Blu-ray is host to a plethora of exciting extras.

Blue Thunder
Blue Thunder, from genre specialist John Badham, sees Roy Scheider cast as a veteran police test pilot responsible for a high tech military helicopter. He soon discovers the sinister plans for its use by Federal agents and attempts to thwart the high level conspiracy. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Editing, the explosive film features incredible aerial stunts and an all-star cast that includes Warren Oates, Candy Clark Daniel Stern and Malcolm McDowell. It comes with a featurette, documentary and audio commentary.

Chris Coffel is originally from Phoenix, AZ and now resides in Portland, OR. He once scored 26 goals in a game of FIFA. He likes the Phoenix Suns, Paul Simon and 'The 'Burbs.' Oh and cats. He also likes cats.
