Funny Netflix Plot Summaries

It’s nice to see Netflix adding a handful of new genre films to their streaming service after a few months of stepping back.

I don’t remember the last time I saw the Stephen King adaptation of Dreamcatcher, which will be fun to revisit. The biggest surprise is that Universal is apparently releasing the next Death Race remake direct to Netflix around the same time as the digital and home video release.

There’s also horror must-see titles arriving, including Under the Shadow and It Follows, with IFC sharing Antibirth earlier than expected. January looks to be a pretty fun month for subscribers…

January 1

Dreamcatcher (2003)

Dreamcatcher is a 2003 American science fiction horror film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel of the same name. Friends on a camping trip discover that the town they’re vacationing in is being plagued in an unusual fashion by parasitic aliens from outer space. Morgan Freeman, Thomas Jane, Jason Lee star.

The Shining (1980)

Frustrated writer Jack Torrance takes a job as the winter caretaker at the ominous, mountain-locked Overlook Hotel so that he can write in peace. When he arrives there with his wife and son, they learn that the previous caretaker had gone mad. Slowly Jack becomes possessed by the evil, demonic presence in the hotel.

V for Vendetta (2005)

Following world war, London is a police state occupied by a fascist government, and a vigilante known only as V (Hugo Weaving) uses terrorist tactics to fight the oppressors of the world in which he now lives. When V saves a young woman named Evey (Natalie Portman) from the secret police, he discovers an ally in his fight against England’s oppressors.

After Shideh’s building is hit by a missile during the Iran-Iraq War, a superstitious neighbor suggests that the missile was cursed and might be carrying malevolent Middle-Eastern spirits. January 13

Joey, a complete stoner in a town known for its good weed and stories of the Candy Corn Killer, is a disaster waiting to happen. As you can imagine, it doesn’t take long before the family name catches up. Trent and Joey must figure out how to sort through a string of cliché murders that so happen starts right as they arrive.

The Rezort (2016)

Roger Corman’s Death Race 2050 (2016)

Legendary filmmaking icon, Roger Corman, is back with his most outrageous film yet in this sensational, action-packed and darkly humorous reboot of the original Death Race 2000! It’s the year 2050 and America is controlled by an all-powerful corporate government ruled by The Chairman (Malcolm McDowell). The masses have been brainwashed with violent virtual-reality entertainment. The event of the year is the Death Race, in which a motley crew of violent drivers compete in a cross-country road race, scoring points for shamelessly running people over and driving each other off the road. The reigning champion and fan favorite, Frankenstein (Manu Bennett), who’s half-man half-machine, wants to take the crown, but his rebel spy co-pilot threatens his legacy.

January 21

Bates Motel: Season 4 (2016)

The fourth season follows Norma (Vera Farmiga) as she becomes increasingly fearful of Norman (Freddie Highmore), going to great lengths to find him the professional help he needs. This complicates their once unbreakable trust as Norman struggles to maintain his grip on reality. Meanwhile, Sheriff Romero (Nestor Carbonell) once again finds himself drawn into their lives.

January 30

Antibirth (2016)

Hard-drinking, pill-popping, bong-ripping Lou and her best friend Sadie spend their days adrift in a drug-induced haze. But one wild night out becomes a bad trip that never ends when Lou wakes up with symptoms of an unexplained, highly abnormal pregnancy. As her due date approaches with alarming swiftness, the fear, paranoia, and conspiracy theories begin to pile up about the pregnancy.
