STARZ: Horror Films Streaming in January 2017

Published

on

Starz is going all out on their genre titles in January,  with one of my personal favorites, 8mm, topping the list.

There’s also a slew of Tarantino titles being added, but what I found interesting was that Grindhouse was listed individually with the two films, Death Proof and Planet Terror also separately listed. Does this mean you can pick and choose what Grindhouse experience you want on the Starz app?

There’s also some Halloween movies, as well as the new Ghostbusters, which will already be available.

As a reminder, all titles are made available after midnight EST and all titles on the STARZ APP are available to both stream and download.

JANUARY 1st

8MM (1999)

8mm is a 1999 American-German crime mystery film directed by Joel Schumacher and written by Andrew Kevin Walker. The film stars Nicolas Cage as a private investigator who delves into the world of snuff films.

The Amityville Horror (1979)

The Amityville Horror is a 1979 American horror film, directed by Stuart Rosenberg, based on Jay Anson’s 1977 novel of the same name. It is the first film in the Amityville franchise. A remake was produced in 2005. Newlyweds move into a large house where a mass murder was committed, and experience strange manifestations which drive them away.

Grindhouse; Death Proof; Planet Terror (2007)

Filmmakers Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez pay tribute to exploitation films of the 1970s with two features in one. Tarantino directs “Death Proof,” a slasher film, and Rodriguez directs “Planet Terror,” a zombie movie. Fictitious ads and movie trailers run during each feature’s intermission.

Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003)

Kill Bill: Volume 1 is a 2003 American martial arts action film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. The Bride wakens from a four-year coma. The child she carried in her womb is gone. Now she must wreak vengeance on the team of assassins who betrayed her – a team she was once part of.

Kill Bill Vol. 2 (2004)

The Bride continues her quest of vengeance against her former boss and lover Bill, the reclusive bouncer Budd and the treacherous, one-eyed Elle.

Monster House (2006)

No adults believe three youths’ (Mitchel Musso, Spencer Locke, Sam Lerner) assertion that a neighboring residence is a living creature that means them harm. With Halloween approaching, the trio must find a way to destroy the structure before innocent trick-or-treaters meet ghastly ends.

JANUARY 6th

The Fury (1978)

The Fury is a 1978 supernatural horror film directed by Brian De Palma. The film was written by John Farris, based on his novel of the same name. A government agent is determined to come to his son’s rescue when a sinister official kidnaps him to harbor his extremely powerful psychic abilities.

JANUARY 27th

Halloween II (1981)

While Sheriff Brackett and Dr. Loomis hunt for Michael Myers, a traumatized Laurie is rushed to hospital, and the serial killer is not far behind her.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)

Hospital emergency room Dr. Daniel “Dan” Challis (Tom Atkins) and Ellie Grimbridge (Stacey Nelkin), the daughter of a murder victim, uncover a terrible plot by small-town mask maker Conal Cochran (Dan O’Herlihy), a madman who’s planning a Halloween mass murder utilizing an ancient Celtic ritual. The ritual involves a boulder stolen from Stonehenge, the use of Silver Shamrock masks and a triggering device contained in a television commercial — all designed to kill millions of children.

Ju-On: The Grudge (2002)

Ju-on: The Grudge is a 2002 Japanese supernatural horror film written and directed by Takashi Shimizu. This film is the third installment in the Ju-on series and the first film to be theatrically released. A mysterious and vengeful spirit marks and pursues anybody who dares enter the house in which it resides.

JANUARY 28th

Ghostbusters is a 2016 American 3D supernatural comedy film directed by Paul Feig, written by Feig and Katie Dippold, and starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth.
