‘Godzilla’ Just Chillin’…

Warners and Legendary are doing their best to keep the villain(s) from the Gareth Edwards-directed Godzilla out of the public, but are literally cramming looks at the lizard king down our throat.

In theaters May 16, here’s yet another look at Godzilla, who looks like he’s just chillin’ out. It’s sort of an interesting hero shot, with a few puny humans standing around in awe (they don’t look very afraid).

From visionary new director Gareth Edwards (Monsters) comes a powerful story of human courage and reconciliation in the face of titanic forces of nature, when the awe-inspiring Godzilla rises to restore balance as humanity stands defenseless.

Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston, Aaron Johnson, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe, Richard T. Jones, Sally Hawkins, Akira Takarada, Victor Rasuk, Yuki Morita, and C.J. Adams star in the pic rated PG-13 for “intense sequences of destruction, mayhem and creature violence…

I gotta say I’m not really diggin’ Godzilla’s look. While it’s certainly more in the right direction than the ’98 abortion, I’m still seeing too many iguana characteristics. Not crazy about the way his dorsal fins look either. Always trying to stay positive about it, but each new photo of him I see the less intrigued I become. That may be the only thing the ’98 crew did right in the whole project. They kept him completely out of the public eye until after the release of the film (with GOOD reason). I do find it strange, however, that this ‘other’ monster Godzilla will supposedly fight has yet to surface. No sign of any other giant creature in the picture besides him at this point. I guess that’s a good thing.

More bear and eagle than iguana.

    • AlanMorlock

The other monsters have been in several of the TV spots, and there are toys released of them.

AlanMorlock, where’d you find this gif? you have an excellent eye! i haven’t seen this visual (or i just missed it completely! LOL) in any of the tv spots or the trailer. that shot/the creature looks awesome and yet it’s still so well hidden/unrevealed (which is great!) that it’s a mystery/intriguing!

Oh wow. Hadn’t seen that yet. What the flippin’
        hell is that?

I always find it amusing when people nitpick. Especially since the original was literally a man in a suit, which looked very much like a man in a suit. Stop splitting hairs and enjoy that you have a design that embodies the classic look while updating it realistically. Don’t be that type of fan that everyone rolls their eyes at.

      • VictorCrowley

I really couldn’t care less what any other fan thinks. I just prefer it when there’s something actually in front of the camera versus all the goofy CGI. Moreover, wouldn’t matter so much if Godzilla actually resembled more of the classic incarnation, since that was apparently the whole purpose behind the second American attempt at a Godzilla film. The whole ‘getting it right this time’ angle. I don’t see it myself. But, as long as it’s better than ’98, which I strongly feel they’d have to seriously try to f*ck up to make it any worse, I’ll be content.

So you would prefer the goofy man in the fucking suit? Now everything you say has no validity! You apparently do care what others think or you would not have responded to Jer! Get over yourself and go into the new film with no pre-perceived notions or expectations and just enjoy the film! Everything points to that they did get it right! Go put on your rubber Godzilla suit and cosplay with your mom! Believe that!

          • VictorCrowley

I tried keeping it classy responding to your first comment before I read this one. Wow, what a fucking moron you are.

          • Full Frontal Squashing

Please, no more classy! We all know thats a facade from you! Take off your rubber suit, diss-mount ur mom, and put the lotion in the fucking basket! Believe That Moron!

Incidentally, there’s two other monsters. One on land, one in the air. The plates on his back, well, where do we start with the Toho one whose design changed almost every movie anyhow. They went from tiny plates to almost two foot long plates at one stage, looking utterly ridiculous from time to time. The only reason the 98 crew kept the big G off the screen was because back then, there were no actual movie news websites going around. AICN was in its youth, and that was really about it. Harry Knowles was being courted and bribed to give a positive review, and there was noone else at that point essentially? Had the sites been up like they are now? It would’ve been an entirely different story.

    • Full Frontal Squashing

Tsk, tsk! You are a born skeptic my friend! The new design is awesome, and you are just trying to be negative! Believe That!

      • VictorCrowley

Interesting you know so much about me after reading an opinion on one topic. By that logic I could easily guess you are a mindless sheep who can’t process any opinion that differs from your own, since apparently merely stating my opinion is ‘trying to be negative.’

I don’t like Godzilla’s look. Why is that so hard for certain people to comprehend?

        • Full Frontal Squashing

I attest to know nothing about you, except that there is a retard in every forum, and you sir, are this one! Believe That Douchebag!

          • VictorCrowley

Internet: home of the phony-tough and crazy-brave. Virtual machismo at it’s finest (lowest?). Eat a dick, fag.

          • Full Frontal Squashing

I like the description of yourself, or is that your profile?! After that lame ass comment, I am starting to get a better picture of you. Go back to class, young un, the bells about to ring! If you don’t, I will take you to school! Believe That!

  • Wayne Pierson

Looks like the big man to me

  • mph23

I don’t really like his look either…I guess it’s ok to be hipster retro, but I’ve seen some awesome monster design in my life, and that’s not anywhere near it. As long as the movie itself is better than the 98 one, I’ll be happy.

    • VictorCrowley

That’s pretty much where I am as well, and whatever goofy label the teenie-bops wanna put on such an opinion is fine. I feel like they could’ve done a much better job with the way he looks, especially when considering they took the CGI shortcut and had total free reign to tweak him as much as they wanted. But, at the end of the day, if it at least redeems itself over ’98 I will accept that.

      • Full Frontal Squashing

“CGI” shortcut? What the fuck are you talking about? You really want a man in a suit?! Again, take your cosplay suit off, repair your cardboard buldings, and go get a job! Giving dad a hand job does not count! Hook line and Sinker!

  • ThunderDragoon

Woah, that is a gorgeous still. I, for one, love the design.

  • Brias411

I have to think that the over abundance of images for Godzilla are in direct response to the 1998 ad campaign that didn’t show the monster. That movie sucked so bad, if I were releasing a new G flick, I would make sure people knew what they were getting.

  • SanDiegoFolk

What does Jim Morrison have to do with this? 🙂
