SHOW YOURSELF

Show Yourself, the debut feature film from writer/director Billy Ray Brewton, is set to World Premiere at Bruce Campbell’s Horror Film Festival in Chicago (BCHFF), August 18-21. Produced in conjunction with Wizard World Chicago, BCHFF is in its third year and is sponsored by Shudder, Bloody Disgusting, and the Starz series “Ash vs Evil Dead”.

One of two world premieres at the festival, Show Yourself is a supernatural horror film that’s said to be in the tradition of The Changeling and House.

When his friend Paul dies suddenly, Travis heads into the woods to say goodbye. As he deals with his grief, and the way it is affecting he relationships in his life, he starts realizing he might not actually be alone in the woods. Curiosity turns to horror as Travis comes face-to-face with something both inexplicable and frighteningly familiar. “He came to let go. Something won’t let him.”

The film stars Ben Hethcoat (best known from the Fantastic Fest/Stanley Film Festival award- winning short “The Babysitter Murders”) as “Travis”, and co-stars Corsica Wilson (L.A. Macabre), Barak Hardley (Mockingbird), Clancy McCartney (the upcoming Youth Group), David McElwee (“Boardwalk Empire”), Stephen Cone (The Wise Kids), and veteran character actor, Robert Longstreet (Take Shelter, The Signal).

“The film was my chance to pay homage to the horror films of the 70’s and 80’s that inspired me, “ says writer/director Brewton. “We took all of the traditional horror tropes that helped define the genre, and turned them all on their heads. It’s a ghost story for a modern generation, with the isolation from technology taking the guise of the spooky old house on the hill.”

Shot on location in Southern California, Show Yourself joins an eclectic selection of films for BCHFF, including: fellow world premiere Found Footage 3D; award-winning L.A. Film Festival favorite, Beyond the Gates; opening night film Don’t Breathe; closing night film Siren; and retro screenings of The Monster Squad/Night of the Creeps (as part of a celebration of filmmaker Fred Dekker); Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (30th anniversary screening; and The Beyond (with Barbara Crampton in-person).

Bruce Campbell’s Horror Film Festival takes place August 18-21 at the the Rosemont Muvico 18. Show Yourself screens Friday August 19th at 10pm, following the special screening of the Season 2 premiere of “Ash vs Evil Dead. Individual tickets and $100 festival passes are on sale now at www.bchff.com.

Shudder Infested clip, spider horror

Director Sébastien Vaniček has been set to helm the next Evil Dead movie, but up first from the filmmaker is the creepy crawly spider horror movie Infested. An exclusive new clip gives a discomfiting closer look at the spider terror, and it’ll make you intensely afraid of all bathroom drains and fixtures.

Infested will induce a new wave of arachnophobia this week; the spider horror film arrives on Shudder on April 26, 2024.

If you’re brave enough to face your fears, watch the new clip below to get a feel for the unrelenting wave of spiders that the characters (and the audience) will face in the film.

In the film, “An underprivileged suburb has been thrown into chaos following an invasion of venomous spiders. Ordered to be placed in quarantine, the project sees inhabitants living on lockdown alongside terrifying spiders that are becoming bigger and bigger.

“The story revolves around Kaleb, who’s about to turn 30 and has never been lonelier. He’s fighting with his sister over a matter of inheritance and has cut ties with his best friend.

“Passionate about exotic animals, he comes home one day with a venomous spider and accidentally lets it slip away.”

Théo Christine (“Suprêmes”), Finnegan Oldfield (“Final Cut”), Jérôme Niel (“Smoking Causes Coughing”), Sofia Lesaffre (“Les Misérables”) and Lisa Nyarko star.

Florent Bernard co-wrote the script.

In his review out of Fantastic Fest last year, Bloody Disgusting’s Trace Thurman raved that Infested (aka Vermines) is “one of the best spider attack movies in years,” noting in his 4-star review that the creature feature uses practical spiders – REAL SPIDERS – as much as possible. Thurman also wrote that the spider horror movie is “full of moments that will get under your skin (I kicked my legs up more than a few times in my screening).”

The spiders will be everywhere in Infested, are you ready?
