Here’s Dwayne Johnson in ‘Rampage’; Trailer Thursday!

New Line Cinema shared with USA Today the first ever photos from their action-adventure Rampage, featuring global megastar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson!

The film reteams Johnson with San Andreas director Brad Peyton with a targeted April 20, 2018, release. A trailer is promised for Thursday, which we hope gives us a taste of the film’s monstrous creatures.

Johnson stars as Davis Okoye, a guy who gets along with animals way better than people. “When animals like you, they lick you. When they don’t like you, they eat you. That’s his philosophy, which has gotten him far in life,” Johnson told the site.

Davis notices George getting more sizable and consequently more uncontrollable, and as he tries to help, it soon becomes clear the gorilla’s not the only beast affected: By the end of the movie, Davis is trying to keep George, a 30-foot wolf named Ralph, and Lizzie, a crocodile the size of a football field, from wrecking Chicago while also attempting to save his friend. (George is played via performance-capture by 6-foot-9 actor Jason Liles, and all three are romping, stomping CGI creatures created by effects house Weta Digital.)

“These monsters are relentless, and audiences are going to find that ride very exhilarating.”

Watch for hi-res images when available and the first trailer on Thursday.

In the film, “Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth.  But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry transforms this gentle ape into a raging monster.  To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered alpha predators. As these newly created monsters tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.

The screenplay is by Ryan Engle and Adam Sztykiel, story by Ryan Engle, based on the video game “Rampage”.

Rampage also stars Oscar nominee Naomie Harris (Moonlight), Malin Akerman (TV’s Billions), Jake Lacy (TV’s Girls), Joe Manganiello (TV’s True Blood) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (TV’s The Walking Dead); as well as P.J. Byrne (Final Destination 5, The Wolf of Wall Street), Marley Shelton (Solace), Breanne Hill (San Andreas), Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), and Matt Gerald (TV’s Daredevil).

The creatures of Rampage will be brought to life by acclaimed VFX supervisor Colin Strause (San Andreas, X-Men: Apocalypse), with five-time Academy Award-winning visual effects company Weta Digital (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes).

I like the Rock and totally down for a movie where he fights giant monsters but his movies usually turn out mediocre as hell.

Mediocre? I think you’re being polite. Most of his movies are dog shit.

I’m looking forward to this. I hope it’s fun and silly and not an attempt at Michael Bay-ish “epic” seriousness. And most importantly, they better do right by my favorite monster, Ralph!

  • Brandon

Yep, that sure is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, doing what The Rock do.

  • Blade

Trying to be optimistic but in my head ” Let’s see how they manage to f*** this up” lol

If it takes it’s self too seriously (or even semi-seriously) it’s probably gonna lack the charm that made the games so fun.

i doubt it will be serious, even less with the crappy self parody mcu movies

He will stop once you point it out on Twitter. He stopped buttoning the last cuff button in all of his pics, once everyone made fun of him.

The Rock and Bruce Willis need to team up again.
