Noomi Rapace Returning in ‘Alien: Covenant’!

Published

Nearly everything reported has me excited about Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, with one exception: the reports that Noomi Rapace wouldn’t be returning as Dr. Elizabeth Shaw.

When Prometheus was announced, it was to be a standalone one-shot event film that would bridge directly into Scott’s 1979 Alien. Then, Damon Lindelof was tapped for major rewrites, turning the solo film into a major trilogy – with the same end result. By extending the storyline, Rapace’s character, Elizabeth Shaw, survives and heads to the Engineers’ home planet to make them answer for their attempted genocide of the planet Earth. Her tour guide would be none other than the android David, played by the great Michael Fassbender.

So, when the full cast was revealed – including Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Demian Bichirm, Danny McBride, Alex England, Billy Crudup, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, and Callie Hernandez – it was beyond strange that Rapace wasn’t included. I mean, what the fuck, am I right?

There were conflicting reports, and I had even heard Rapace would be returning; but with each announcement made by FOX that curiously left out her name, I started to accept that she’d be written off in some sort of bullshit way like they did with Michael Biehn’s character in Alien3 (so many angry fists).

But like the miracle of Engineer-created black ooze, or Elizabeth Shaw’s miraculously conceived baby, it appears Rapace will in fact star in Alien: Covenant, the now filming sequel to Prometheus. Deadline reports that Rapace is in Australia and on the set to shoot weeks worth of scenes in Scott’s film.

With this news, Covenant now has not one, but two strong female leads with Waterston playing REDACTED (click here).

In the film, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant is scheduled for release August 4, 2017.
