[SXSW Review] ‘Atomic Blonde’: Come for Theron. Stay For the Best Action Scene Ever.

While Trace, Andrew and I have been knees deep in SXSW Film Festival coverage here on Bloody Disgusting, there’s also reviews for non-genre films popping up on our sister site, Cinema Runner.

This morning, Trace raved about David Leitch’s Atomic Blonde, starring Charlize Theron as an undercover MI6 agent is sent to Berlin during the Cold War to investigate the murder of a fellow agent and recover a missing list of double agents.

Trace writes:

There is usually a scene in every movie that makes or breaks it for you. It pushes you over the edge into loving the film or hating it. David Leitch’s ‘Atomic Blonde’ has one such scene, and it is a fight scene so marvelous, that even if you end up not particularly caring for it, you will at least walk away remembering that one scene. If an action movie can have one scene that can be that memorable, then it must be doing something right.

You can read the review in its entirety over at Cinema Runner.

i’m very excited for this movie! it’s clear it’s directed by one half of the duo who directed JOHN WICK (i mean that in a great way!).

I doubt it. Charlize doesn’t look very good at selling her moves from what I’ve seen of the trailer. Especially compared to oh … I don’t know … Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Tony Jaa, Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Ziyi, Jeeja Yanin, the entire cast of The Raid films.

I’ll still watch this film but best action scene ever, my ass!

If you watch this and end up agreeing with Trace, I demand that you provide video of handing your ass to him.

Ha, he’d never be ready for this jelly and it’s staying put.
