WORLD OF DEATH Ep. 81 – Playback / Movie Night Maniac

What’s up World of Death watchers!?

Welcome back for some Monday macabre.  We hope everyone had a great weekend.  Not every weekend has to be packed with parties and bar-hopping in order to make it a great one.  Sometimes a great weekend just needs some decent company, junk food, and a couple horror flicks.  The characters in today’s films are doing just that; relaxing and watching the boob tube.  Unfortunately for them, they get a little too involved with their entertainment.

Starting off today’s episode, director Nathan Crooker brings up his film, PLAYBACK.  This one starts off with a man just hanging out on his couch, watching some TV.  After some snowy interference, his TV cuts to what seems like a live security feed of the hallway in his own apartment building.  In the feed, a girl is being chased by a masked man and ultimately meets her demise.  When he goes to investigate the halls – and see if he’s only dreaming – he encounters the masked man himself.  Will he survive?  I guess you’ll have to watch and find out.  This is a smart film with a lot of great Steadicam work.  It has a little blood and ends up being quite the mind-fuck.  What a great way to jump start the episode!

Following up our first film, we have MOVIE NIGHT MANIAC from director Shelly Doss.  In this flick, we have a couple of stoners sitting around getting dumber by the minute as they rip a few bong hits and watch a slasher flick.  Things get pretty intense… in both the movie they’re watching and with their munchies, so Cheech gets up to grab Chong and himself some food.  This is where the twist starts to materialize and they realize the movie they’re watching is more like reality television.  The film takes on an Inception-like plot as a horror movie within a horror movie within a horror movie, etc.  Some of the dialogue is cringe-worthy and the acting could use a little coaching, but overall, it’s a novel idea and has some cool effects.  It has enough blood to quench your thirst after catching a contact high.

Enjoy today’s episode and try not to get sucked in…

Roll it!
