Grab a snack, take a seat and fasten your seatbelt! Australian director Jordan Wippell strikes World Of Death once again (see Ep 9 – Miscellaneous) with “Up Route”.
In this short film, Wippell tells us the story of a hitchhiking gone wrong. Indeed, when one man (Jay Antobenedetto) takes another (Brandon Scott, who also wrote and produced the short) in his car and they both have dark pasts, anything can happen. Inevitably, their deepest secrets will not make a good mix…
In only five minutes, Wippell successfully manages to unfold a strong and captivating narrative led by very good cinematography and pretty strong acting. With his subtle “Little Shop of Horrors” backdrop, Up Route gives off a nice eighties road movie vibe (“Hitcher” is not far…) in a kind of Robert Rodriguez style.
Jordan Wippell is definitely a young director to keep track of. We advise you to check his other work on his WEBSITE. The sublime music video “All Things Come To An End” that he directed for the band Gray Fiction clearly deserves a special mention.
Up Route has won prizes in a number of festivals and now it is your turn to discover it… if you dare.
