In the deep south, no one can hear you scream… well, unless you’re in the Field of Screams of course. After strange noises plague their farm, and a series of animals turn up eaten, a country couple (D.R. Anderson, Sarah Junette Dahmen) call upon a duo of paranormal investigators for help.
Mulder and Scully they are certainly not, but Agents Frost (Jason A. Young) & Riley (Emily Butler) are on the case. They’re the best paranormal investigators you can find in the back of the phone book. And you get what you pay for, or perhaps, don’t pay for.
The agents head to the alleged paranormal scene and begin investigating the arrival of a mysterious scarecrow. When stuff goes down, they get a chance to let their “skills” shine and some hilarious attempts at demon slaying occur. Director/writer James Hennessy’s 6-minute thriller has all the chills and thrills in all the right places. The acting is on point with everyone being who they need to be, when they need to be. The horror element mixes pleasantly with shades of comedy and neither element feels too out of place. With some minor tweaks and some more scenes added on, I could see this short developing into perhaps a nice horror/comedy feature film. If scary country films are your thing, curl up around the crop circle and enjoy Mr. Dark: Field of Screams.
