[Video Interview] Ti West and Amy Seimetz On ‘The Sacrament’!

You guys all know who Ti West (The House of the Devil, The Innkeepers, V/H/S) and Amy Seimetz (A Horrible Way To Die, You’re Next) are by now. And no doubt you’ve heard of The Sacrament (a movie I really dug). If you haven’t seen the film yet you can check it out on iTunes and VOD platforms, with a limited theatrical run beginning on June 6th.

If you have seen the film you know what an important piece to the puzzle Seimetz’s character is. Not only does she have to be emblematic of Eden Parish’s groupthink, she also as to kind of sell the audience a bit on the place first. You have to understand why people want to live there – and she and West do a great job of establishing that.

Check out the interview below.

  • Great interview. Amy makes a great point about how cultist belief (and all beliefs) structures a individual’s reality in such a way where if the belief gets challenged it’s like challenging who a person feels themselves to be. Without that ideological grounding people do some wild stuff.

  • Amnesiac Kid

    trash movie

  • HighDefJunkies

It’s easily my favourite film by West and it’s not even close.

  • J Jett

Amy Seimetz is an excellent actress. i haven’t seen this new Ti West film but Amy was amazing and gave a heartbreaking performance in season 3 of THE KILLING. i wish her character in YOU’RE NEXT had been in the film more but Amy was good in that one too!

    • i actually got a chance to saw it via amazon and I must say its pretty good and I cant believe its based on a true story! If you enjoy the original Wickerman (not the awful BEEEEEEES remake) then I think you might enjoy it! The movie isn’t filled with gore or blood but the horror aspect is there because of how everyone is brainwashed.

  • Disassembly

    *Spoiler of sorts*

I really enjoyed the movie and performances and everything, Ti West is just fantastic. What I don’t get is why he would do a film that is essentially the Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones, but less disturbing, less detail, and far less of a body count. Watching The Sacrament, I kept expecting a creepy supernatural twist–like finding out the cult was secretly worshipping Cthulhu and Father was a Shuggoth or some such… but alas, it was not to be.

    • Oh i know! I was hoping there would be tons of survivors but wow I can’t believe the Father was able to brainwash the people into committing suicide by drinking the juice when they fully knew what was in it. What’s even more crazy is that when I did some research about the Jonestown Massacre, it said that Father actually did a “test” on the people by lying to them that there was poison in it but there really wasn’t and he said that the reason why he did was to “Test” their faith or commitment when the time comes. The fact that not only the people did it once but TWICE just sent chills down my spine! Even worse is that the father was able to get the parents to get their kids to drink it too, that was so f’n tragic!
