Pretty much. Clearly people enjoyed this a lot, I just couldn't see past the glaring problems. I wasn't even expecting much of anything, just a lot of dumb fun. About 45 minutes in I just couldn't be entertained by this, not even in a B-movie sort of way.

After all I have said, I 100% promise I will buy this movie someday. To try to see the fun in it, and to complete my TCM collection.

At least those early sequels were self-aware. This movie tried to play its concept straight and it came across and idiotic and confusing. As I've said before, if it were made as a satire or spoof I would have loved it. TCM 3D confounded me on how dumb it was.
I'm not saying TCM 3D is a smart movie, not at all, but I still found it to be better than those sequels because it wasn't as goofy as they were. I don't take the film totally seriously, or look at it as some masterpiece, just generic slasher fun, done in a better way than most who choose to oblige by the general horror cliches & such as it were.

TCM Part 2 is mostly a comedy, and clearly it works as such.
Yeah, but I don't recall the original being meant to be a comedy, so that whole aspect of the film threw me off entirely. But, like I said before, Bill Moseley was great in it, per usual.

Leatherface is actually a pretty underrated movie, and it also works more as a horror film (especially the unrated version).
Just couldn't get into it. Different strokes for different folks, but I just couldn't find myself being entertained by it....like, at all.

TCM 3D is the most unnecessary of them all. First it ropes us in by being a direct sequel, than it makes no sense as a direct sequel (timeline bullshit), and lastly it creates so many tangents that it isn't even recognizable as being in the same universe as the original (randomly creating tons of characters that supposedly had a major impact on the Sawyer family just so we have a reason to continue the story). On top of all of those things, the acting is laughably bad and the script shockingly inept and idiotic. This movie is the definition of silly (Do yer thing cuz!)

Damn son, this movie makes me unhappy.
All of the films have continuity errors, as with...well, pretty much every horror franchise. I will agree that the writing could've been much better (that's what happens when Adam Marcus writes an original treatment) but I've heard/seen a lot worse.

I don't know, maybe I came out enjoying the movie more than most because I lowered my expectations. Again, is the movie better than the original? Absolutely not. Is it the greatest horror movie that we've gotten in recent memory? Hell fuck no. But is it entertaining & better than a handful of the TCM sequels? I'd say yes.

Hell, if we want to talk about "alternate universes" we can look at The Beginning. I love the movie, but it feels nothing like the world that was set up in the remake. It lacks the grisly, creepy feel of the remake, & feels like a completely different iteration, rather than a prequel to the events we saw in said remake. And the original sequels are quite guilty of doing this as well, so you can't really blame TCM 3D for doing it too.

I usually get hell from folks but honestly that's probably my 2nd favorite of the series. I would agree that its underrated (to me and you anyways and glad to see I'm not in the minority anymore).

        • I have a friend who is as dedicated to being a horror fan as I am and his favorite film in the franchise is Leatherface. Its ok for what it is but I prefer the 2 before it more.

Hell I've enjoyed every single one of them except The Next Generation. I just pretend that one doesn't exist

Nope, I'm in the same group that enjoys Leatherface more than the other sequels, maybe the series itself.

I've only seen Leatherface once about 5 years ago and really liked it, need to give it another watch.

The original is a classic and all time favorite of mine. TCM2 is exactly how I want a fun 80's horror to be and I re-watch it all the time.

Haven't bothered to watch Next Generation, I wonder if it can be worse than 3D... Don't think I want to find out.

                    • I'd rank Leatherface as probably my second favorite of the series. Viggo is awesome as is most of the cast for the most part. For some reason I just really enjoy it.

That was my favorite one as a kid, when I couldn't detect how cheesy it was. It didn't really hold up too well.

I still think the remake is pretty damn solid, and my personal #2 behind the original. It's nasty, has a unique look to it and solid acting, and gave us one of the best modern horror villains in recent memory, with R. Lee Emry's character.

Think that's why I enjoy it more than I should. It's odd as there are a ton of horror I loved growing up but did not enjoy after a lengthy lapse of years went by. For some reason the outright absurdity of it all keeps me entertained. It's probably a guilty pleasure liking of the film. Also always enjoy seeing Virgo playing a batshit crazy redneck cannibal too

It's also odd that I hated TCM2 as a kid even hating it in my college years. Probably about 8 years ago I finally gained an appreciation for the flick. It was a major curve ball for a sequel which now I can appreciate and enjoy it a ton!

I enjoy the remake a ton too. Thought it was solid and always surprised it gets slammed as much as it does. Nice gritty feel and Emry stole the show. Enjoyed the atmosphere in this one too.

You can pick up the Unrated/R rated versions pretty cheap here in the states for around 5 bucks or so. Well worth having if you have any of the others in your collection. Honestly you should watch The Next Generation just for the hell of it

Why does that give me some type of tingle in my pants accompanied by hair growing under my arms?

I will honestly never forget about N2N and the argument over the second one and Leatherface hiding in the backseat. That was a beast argument between you guys.

The 2nd one was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I still own that very VHS to this day.

Agreed. I remember the first time I saw the remake, creeped me the fuck out completely. And R. Lee Ermy is always interesting to watch, because no matter how much of an asshole his character is you still manage to somewhat like him. Plus, I liked that Leatherface was so intense in the film, & the gore was handled very well without being overdone.

Btw, it didn't really occur to me until today that the original TCM is the very first horror movie I ever saw. I saw it when I was like four or five, & that really scared the shit out of me.

Then, to make it worse I ended up seeing the original Halloween not long after. Haha....I was one traumatized little fuck for a long, long time.

                              • As a TCM fan I didn't care much for this "sequel," and I didn't even mind the remake when that came out. Probably the worst entry since Next Generation.
