‘Elden Ring’ Producer States The Game is in The “Final Stages of Development” And More

Published

We’re all waiting with baited breath for From Software’s Elden Ring. From Software knows it, and in a new interview with Famitsu during Tokyo Game Show 2021 (which was translated by the Elden Ring subreddit), Elden Ring producer Yasuhiro Kitao dropped a few tidbits that will no doubt please fans.

Kitao stated that Elden Ring is in the “final stages of development”, and that the team is “moving forward quietly.” In addition, with regards to the game’s open world map, Kitao noted that Elden Ring has a “very unusual map structure”, which will give the team the opportunity to show fans a few things that they’ve never seen before in a From Software title.

“You can explore the open field and seamlessly visit small to medium-sized dungeons within it,” explains Kitao. “There are several types of dungeons to explore, such as catacombs and auditoriums. At the end of the world, we have what we call ‘legacy dungeons’, which are huge castle-like dungeons like the ones in previous titles.”

And just because the game takes place in an open world, Kitao assures fans that the game won’t be padded out with boring fetch quests, saying “we don’t have any errand quests, so players can go there or there as they like.”

In addition, Elden Ring will have a system so players can avoid getting lost. Kitao states that the map features “a system that lets you go anywhere you want, but also tells you when you’re in trouble.”

And yes, in case you were wondering, Elden Ring will be hard. Kitao explains that the team wants players to feel a sense of accomplishment when playing Elden Ring, and one of the ways to achieve this is to set a high difficulty level. However, there are “systems in place to help you experience that sense of accomplishment.”

Elden Ring is due out for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on January 21, 2022.
