  • Hammer Horror Appreciation Thread!

I’ve been a big fan of Hammer Horror for a good deal of time now, so I thought a proper appreciation thread was in order. Even though a good deal of actors spent time with the company, Hammer to me means Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, bringing class and style to some of the biggest characters in horror and starring alongside some fine women.

It's not complete though, I wish it was. Still, better than nothing.

Hopefully Anchor Bay will rerelease the ones they have (had?) the rights to now.

PRINCE OF DARKNESS, SCARS OF..., and a quality edition of SATANIC RITES...

That's what happened with the Pink Panther box set. MGM/UA for some reason didnt have the rights to one of them (Return of), and it got released seperately by the company that did.

Yeah, I hate double-dipping on DVDs. I feel like such a sucker. I'm pretty strict about it--if I even have a store-bought VHS, I won't re-buy it on DVD. on principle lol

                  I don't mind if it's significantly enhanced.

I also buy any re-release of HALLOWEEN. Because I'm a fanboy.

Would like it someone released some really decent releases of the Hammer films. I have a couple of the Warner ones, no extras, no subtitles, no anything. I hear the few released by Anchor Bay are good though.

This is a decent starter boxset, but realistically three of the movies are just average.

And as Dave said, I have all these already too. It's a good sign though.

Hammer Fans Just HAVE To Buy This!

IT'S OUT:The Dracula Hammer Warner Bros. Collection!

Now I know that it's strange to basically have in
                        one collection Dracula's 1, 3, 4, and 6 (where's
Parts 2, 5, and 7?), but what a bargain! This
(along with other "4 Film Favorites" sets like
the Stallone collection [which I bought] and
Lethal Weapon's 1 thru 4) is currently this week
selling for only $10.96 at WalMart! Huge bargain!

Here's the deal on those three I mentioned:
Each set is a two-disc/double sided set in
a single keepcase with leaf. If the movie originally
came out as a dual layer, it's dual layer here too.
In fact, all these are anamorphic widescreen
(others like the Kids collections aren't) and
are exactly the same presentation as they were
originally released by Warner Bros minus separate
boxes and maybe a FULLFRAME version on the flip
(they just pressed the Widescreen on these).

What a bargain. These three I mentioned are the
best ones, the others are blah really, but that's
one hell of a deal for 4 Hammer Dracula titles
                        at the same time.

Would love to hear from some hardcore Hammer fans
on this one. Did Warner do a good job on these originally?

I hope this is a trend. There are still tons of unreleased Hammer pictures.

I realize they aren't all to the caliber of Horror of Dracula, but to geeks like myself they'd be excellent additions to my collection.

Sadly when I bought these four separately, they probably cost me over fifty bucks. Tis a good deal.

I would never have even imagined you could kill someone with a wagon wheel.

I have all of these. Parts 2, 5 and 7 are owned by Anchor Bay which I own those as well. The AB releases are OOP and quite pricey.....espicially Prince of Darkness. The Warner releases sport a good transfer but if these are the full DVD releases, don't expect much as they are pretty bare. Like caustic stated, these cost me over $50 as well individually. A good price for some great Hammer films.

Oh my! I don't want to rub it in, but you two
must be kicking yourselves to spend so much
money on these separately, just to have Warner
re-release them like this for only $10 bucks.

However, it could mean that the single versions
may now go OOP, and then yours could become
rare. And did the originals have FULLFRAMEs on the flip or
just disc art? Either isn't availible here. But man....$50!

You two might want to pick this up for
such a low price anyway....I dunno.
