  • Watch: La Residencia AKA The House that Screamed (1969)

This stylishly eerie Spanish production stars elegant Lili Palmer as the severe headmistress of a French boarding school for young women, where the rigid constraints of 19th-century social conditioning have turned the place into a hothouse of barely contained sexual urges (leading to lots of gauzy shots of the girls slinking about in their nightgowns). Oh and there are killing going on too leading to a bang ending that I will not spoil.

Directed by the great Narciso Ibáñez Serrador (Extreme Prejudice (1987), The House That Screamed (1970), The Treasure of Makuba (1967), Who Can Kill a Child? (1976), Dr. Orloff's Monster (1964), Blame: 6 Flims to Keep You Awake(2006), El trapero (1982). This is an iconic movie that inspired Pieces and Suspiria.

Sadly the only DVD release is Elvira's Movie Macabre. Thats it for now. Please follow the link to HULU.and enjoy The House that Screamed.

This movie has been treated like a STD-riddled junkie whore as far as distribution and packaging. It does not belong SOLELY on Elvira's double-feature alongside MANEATER OF HYDRA. I love Peterson;she's a doll. No ill intent toward her or her series at all. Dubbing this 'piece is fuckin' criminal, too. I WILL NOT look at my Elvira's Movie Macabre DVD cause I know it's been bastardized.

This film has style and was uber innovative in its day(Argento saw this and took some fucking notes for his own SUSPIRIA).

Unfortunately, the only respectable releases have come from Europe, and they do not provide subtitles for those who have not bothered with learning the Spanish language.

There are many shades going on in the movie. At one point, as the girl-on-girl sadism was being shown[in a "classy" way], I felt like I had just been transported into a mild WIP film.

You gotta see this one. Know your horror roots. Also, this , to me, was reminiscent to BLOOD AND LACE (1971), as these girl "escapees" aren't exactly free and living the high life... Check it out. MachetAY! knows wtf he's talkin' about.
There is no such thing as DEATH; it's just a trrransformation.
No hay fin para ti. No hay fin para mi.

My old place in toronto had a bidet...I liked using it, cleaned the shit outta there + it felt good. Ever masturbate with a stream of water on your asshole? Feels great, try it sometime.
