Looks like it might be a few months before you'll see it on DVD. Weinstein's got the US rights so it'll prolly be released up their Dimension Extreme division like Inside was.

As for the film itself, I too saw it at TIFF '08 and loved it. I wouldn't say it's so badass that it makes Inside look like a disney movie, but it does genuinly make you feel for the characters and what they go through. The film itself almost feels like it has 2 parts, first part is a 'normal' horror flick and the second part is when you get to feel almost like you're with the character through some unique directing. "Overrated" or not, I found it amazing.

I didn't find this overrated, but I very much expected to. It actually surpassed my expectations by a long shot. I would have been happy if it played out just like the first half all the way through the film, but in the last 30 min when you really start to figure out what's going on it blew my mind.

Totally horiffic to watch, but (maybe for the first time, though it's been promised countless times) the violence really aids the point of the film. I can't remember the last time a movie genuinely scared me, but when that demon girl was chasing Lucie and slashing at her screaming, I think I was gripping my seat pretty hard. Even the noises she makes were traumatizing.

I liked this a lot more than Inside, and I wasn't prepared to say that when I walked into the theatre. Too bad it'll probably be over a year before I see this again, unless the distributors actually don't drag their heels on a movie like this, for once.

Blockbuster better not fuck with this one.

          I'm looking forward to this.

Primarily because I love horror movies and can't wait to get my hands on basically anything that gets released. I have high hopes for everything I see and hope that in this case and any other similar cases I am not disappointed.

I peresonally cant wait to see this. While I can say I wasnt that impressed with Frontiers, I have to say that Inside to me was fantastic. So again with all the hype from this movie, Im waiting patiently but I think it will be worth it.

I saw this film in the day of its release in France, and I was really disturbed, during some days. The film had an incredible violence, especially in its second part (because it consists in two different parts ), but regrettably the film suffers clichés of the kind, as House of Voices / Saint Ange précedemment.
Nevertheless a production of this quality there, we don't see it quite everyday (and even less in France).

(Damn, that french/english translator sucks !)

Alright, I happened upon this piece of art at a local smoke shop my friend owns. Someone had brought in a bootleg copy, turns out it was an intern for the Weinstien Company.

Me and my girl popped it in last night, seriously stoked to see this film. I had been reading about the hype for months and months and months. What we found, was not disappointment at all, but a completely new perspective at which to guage the film. Everyone says its "so shocking! disturbing! gory! too violent!" but being one of those kids that grew up watching Freddy, Jason, Michael, Chucky, Bruce Campbell, and all my other favorites, this film didnt really shock me.

The intensity of the film shows through beautifully, I mean we were watching this thing on an old EMac computer and for the first hour of the film, we didnt blink. Seriously, we didnt fucking blink. We were that enthralled by the film. It pulls you in, shakes the shit out of you, and holds you there to soke it all in.

Now when it comes to gore, you won't be disappointed, there is tons of blood. And the nicest thing about the plot is that it gives a damn good reason why there is as much as there is. The acting was absolutely amazing, you could see the love between the 2 girls was strong, and you knew they would do whatever it took for one another. The girls had a strong conviction to the roles, they really shined in this film, even when they were being torn to pieces or beaten viciously.

The way I see films is different from the way alot of people see them. I'm an aspiring director, so I see lighting, camera angles, acting, plot developement, charcter developement, so on and so forth. The film was NOT that shocking to me, my girlfriend was fucking freaking out. The violence is a bit over the top, but it is completely justified. I can see why some people would find it too much, and puke and walk out and all that. Some people just have weak stomachs.

But honestly, you find a deeper meaning in the film by the hour and half mark. When the Madam explains why all of what has happened has happened, it intrigues you, and brings you to a whole other level of the story. At first it was a story of revenge, but by the end it is a story of over zealous faith and curiosity. Martyrs is deffinately worth the wait, the time, and the money.

The greatest part about the film is that you can go into it expecting the most amazing film ever (because of all the reviews) and walk out completely satisfied. Its a genre all its own. It is NOT GLORIFIED TORTURE PORN! Its a brutal story with true depth.

So in conclusion, if you're expecting it to be the most horrific film in decades, and you're a true horror fan, you probably won't be shocked, but you will deffinately be happy with what you have seen. Go see it when it comes out, or find a bootleg copy, but see this film!

                          10/10

I am so looking forward to this movie. I think there are some people who posted in the first couple of pages who wish they had maybe kept their mouths shut until they had actually seen the film.
I dont get this whole anti-french thing going on now. The main big French movies are
                              1. High Tension
                              2. Irreversable
                              3. Inside
                              4. Frontiers
                              5. Them
                              and now Martyrs.
I liked all these movies. High Tension showed how to do a slasher film and how to get real atmosphere. Aja then went on and did The Hills Have eyes and again showed the American horror makers just how its done. Unfortunatly Aja is now a Hollywood guy and has ended up just doing movies that might sell tickets (aka P2 and mirrors).
Irreversable has effected me like no other movie. I thought about that film for a couple of weeks after watching it. I havent seen it again, because I want that same shocking memory to be with me.
Frontiers was Frances version of Wolf Creek x Hostel x........, but it wasnt a bad film. Not at the same level as High Tension, but I watched it for what it was.
Inside was good because it was a new idea. I wasnt overly horrified by it as I thought I would (ie Irreversable) but I enjoyed it.
And now Martyrs, and it looks like it is going to be the goods.
So why we have this hate of French Horror when the main 5 French Films are at a higher level than the last top 5 American horror flicks.
The French, like the Japanese before them, have given Hollywood a kick in the ass, and showed them how to do things.
I hear how good US movies like 'The Mist" and "Decent" are, yet they dont hold a candle to Irreversable, High Tension or Inside.
And the best horror flick out of Hollywood in the last few years was directed by Aja.
