I'm a huge Cronenberg fanboy, but I wouldn't rank Scanners anywhere near the top of the list. Overall it was disappointing. There are some classic moments, but overall meh.

Hmm... it's in my top 5 Cronenberg definitely... (Dead Ringers, Videodrome, The Fly, The Brood, Scanners)

Not to say that it's bad, but I enjoyed the others more:

        Dead Ringers
        The Fly
        Videodrome
        Naked Lunch
        The Dead Zone
        A History of Violence
        Crash
        The Brood
        eXistenZ
        Scanners
        Spider
        Rabid
        Shivers

I've yet to see Eastern Promises, M. Butterfly, or Fast Company.

I know what you're saying. It drags in too many parts, and it seems a lot more predictable than most traditional Cronenberg. Outside from a few standout moments, I would say it's more "meh" then anything else.

The Brood is by far his best work.

              Lemme correct myself.

The Brood is my favorite work of his. Having not seen all of Cronenberg's films, I still can't vouch for which one's his best.

My top 3 Cronenberg films would be Videodrome, The Brood, and The Fly.

As for Scanners, it's an ambitious concept that finds a way to deliver despite its low budget and its underacting protagonist. Michael Ironside is quite memorable and was great as the sinister Darryl Revok. I thought the climax scene was really intense.

David Cronenberg is one of my most influential directors, especially being a Canadian. One of the only truly great directors we have.

I think I'm gonna look f/ Scanners today, in the mall. This film is fairly overlooked, reciently even by myself. I would say this is in Cronenberg's top five, that I have personally seen. The Brood is probably my favorite by him.

Don't bother. Cronenberg is what makes Scanners so good.
