‘Clue’: The Murder-Mystery Board Game is Getting an Animated Series
A classic board game is headed back to the screen, with Deadline reporting tonight that Hasbro’s beloved game Clue is now getting an animated series over at Fox Entertainment.
Deadline notes, “There are no details about the premise of the animated series besides assurances that it will be encapsulating the thrilling and suspenseful dynamics that have made Clue a global sensation for more than seven decades.”
Fox Entertainment is developing the animated series with Entertainment One and Bento Box Entertainment.
“‘Colonel Mustard…In the Conservatory…With the lead pipe.’ By just hearing these colorful phrases alone, you immediately know what they mean — leaving no mystery as to why Clue is one of the most beloved board games-turned-IP of all time,” said Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment of Fox Entertainment. “We couldn’t be more excited to develop it as an animated series along with eOne and Bento Box.”
“We’re thrilled to team up once again with our great partners at Fox and also work with Bento Box on this exciting new series,” said Pancho Mansfield, eOne’s President of Global Scripted Programming. “Clue is an iconic whodunit property that exudes mystery and intrigue, and has fans all over the world. We can’t wait to share our reimagined animated version with audiences.”
Clue was created way back in 1943 by Anthony E. Pratt, and the board game was of course notably turned into a feature film starring Tim Curry in 1985 and a mini-series in 2011.
Last week we learned that Steve Buscemi had joined the cast of “Wednesday” Season 2 at Netflix, and Variety lets us know that Thandiwe Newton (“Westworld”) has also signed on.
Jenna Ortega is back as Wednesday Addams in the upcoming second season of Netflix’s “Wednesday,” with Steve Buscemi playing the new principal of Nevermore Academy.
Jenna Ortega stars in the hit series as Wednesday Addams, with Luis Guzmán playing Gomez and Catherine Zeta-Jones playing Morticia in Tim Burton’s Netflix series. Christina Ricci also appears in the show, playing a brand new role, with Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester.
“Wednesday” is described as “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.” The series follows…
“Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships.”
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (“Smallville”) are the writers and showrunners, with Tim Burton executive producing and directing several episodes of the show’s debut season.
We don’t know much about “Wednesday” Season 2 at the moment but Jenna Ortega has promised that the new season will be “bolder” and darker than the first season of the series.
“We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror more,” Ortega said last year.
