‘Horror Tycoon’ Sees You Design Your Own Haunted House to Scare up Profits and Fame [Trailer]

Published

on

We’ve had Railroad Tycoon, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Transport Tycoon, and the list goes on. Now developer Smidge Games and publishers Gameparic and PlayWay have brought us Horror Tycoon, which is out today on Steam Early Access (with a 10% discount), with the full game arriving in 2023.

So just what is Horror Tycoon? Your job is simple: build a haunted house and scare your guests. Of course, there’s more to it than that. You have to be able to scare them enough for them to run out of the house before they reach the exit. Failure to do so means loss of money and reputation.

To ensure your guests are sufficiently frightened, you’ll need to build walls, doorways, trap doors, fake walls, and more to guide your guests through your haunted maze. If you’re in a rush to get going, you can make use of the game’s pre-built hallways and rooms. Design is one thing, but you can also decorate your haunted house with plenty of goodies in Horror Tycoon, such as lighting effects, ghostly paintings, spooky props, and more. There are also attractions you can buy to place within the house to ensure scares.

However, in order to access these attractions, you’ll need to have a high enough “fear reputation”. Be careful though, as the more of the same attractions you have and the closer they are to each other, it may result in a negative effect on your guests and not be as scary.

As your fear reputation increases, so do the demands of your visitors. Eventually, you’ll have to employ traps that are truly horrific, giving you the ability to make guests disappear from the living and join the dead. Don’t get caught, or else your career will be over. Be sure to hire the best security and lawyers you can afford to keep investigations away from your haunted attraction.
