‘The Empty Man’: Trailer Says His Name and Brings the Horror to Theaters Next Friday, October 23rd [Video]
The first night you hear him. The second night you see him. The third night he finds you.
In an already overly crowded fall, 20th Century Studios is releasing their own horror movie, this one based on the popular Boom! Studios graphic novels about an urban legend in a small town.
The first trailer calls upon The Empty Man, which looks like something between The Ring, Candyman, and The Bye Bye Man. While it carries strong horror vibes and some very cool imagery, it’s hard to not think this is just another studio dump considering it comes out next Friday, October 23rd (ticketing link). One week to promote? Eesh.
In the film, “After a group of teens from a small Midwestern town begin to mysteriously disappear, the locals believe it is the work of an urban legend known as The Empty Man. As a retired cop investigates and struggles to make sense of the stories, he discovers a secretive group and their attempts to summon a horrific, mystical entity, and soon his life—and the lives of those close to him—are in grave danger.”
Directed by David Prior from a screen story and screenplay by David Prior based on the graphic novel by Cullen Bunn, The Empty Man stars James Badge Dale, Marin Ireland, Stephen Root, Ron Canada, Robert Aramayo, Joel Courtney and Sasha Frolova.
Following in the wake of Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse getting their own horror movies, Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid is the next to get the twisted treatment.
Originally published in 1837, the original tale of The Little Mermaid is now in the public domain, and MSR Media International presents their own horror version of the tale this year.
The Little Mermaid is being distributed by Grindstone Entertainment Group, and the film has officially been rated “R” this week for “Language, some violence and brief nudity.”
In the film from director Leigh Scott, “Dr. Eric Prince, an archaeologist, makes a dramatic discovery on a small Caribbean island—proof of an ancient, advanced prehistoric society. While his dig is in progress, he meets the mysterious and beautiful Aurora Bey and falls in love. Her arrival coincides with several mermaid sightings and strange disappearances.
“When Eric’s friend and mentor, Dr. Ashley, arrives on the island, Ashley uncovers the true identity of Aurora and the dangers of the hidden evil inside Eric’s dig site. Will Eric heed his friend’s advice, or will he be blinded by love and the power of the siren, allowing the world to fall to the forces of evil?”
Lydia Helen, Mike Markoff and Jeff Denton star in The Little Mermaid.
