Johnny Cage Voice Actor Alludes to New ‘Mortal Kombat’ Game in Development

Published

on

With this October marking the 30th anniversary of Mortal Kombat, you have to wonder if series developer NetherRealm is marking the occasion with something big. That “something big” might in fact be a new entry in the series, if actor Andrew Bowen (who played Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11) is to be believed.

Andrew Bowen posted a video Twitter yesterday to let everyone know that he was at the Warner Bros. Studio lot. This would be interesting on its own, but for one, Bowen mugged for the camera wearing sunglasses that were very similar to what Johnny Cage wore in Mortal Kombat 11. That, and the audio for the video was overlaid with music very similar to Mortal Kombat 2‘s intro theme. The video is capped off with a voiceover that says, “Every deadly technique. It’s savage combat.”

Warner has yet to announce what’s next for NetherRealm Studios, though Ed Boon alluded last year to NetherRealm working on a Marvel Comics-based fighting game. That, and journalist Jeff Grubb last year had mentioned that NetherRealm was also working on Mortal Kombat 12, despite the looming possibility that the developer could be sold off by overall owner AT&T.

Not to mention that we’re in for a new Mortal Kombat movie with The Exorcist TV series creator Jeremy Slater handling the writing duties for the sequel to the 2021 film.

Regardless, this is all rumours at this point. But again, with October not too far away, it’d be nice to have Mortal Kombat celebrate in a big way.

Thanks to Video Games Chronicle for the heads up.
