IMAX Previews ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ Expanded Ratio and Drops Exclusive Poster [Video]

Based on the Japanese manga series “Gunnm” by Yukito Kishiro, the Robert Rodriguez-directed, James Cameron-produced/co-written Alita: Battle Angel hopes to kick-start a brand new film franchise early next year.

With tickets officially on sale, IMAX revealed today exclusive artwork for the film that will present nearly half the film with up to 26% more picture. The below video previews the expended ratio.

Set in the 26th century…

“Alita tells of a female cyborg that is discovered in a scrapyard by a scientist. With no memory of her previous life except her deadly martial-arts training, the woman becomes a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals. The action-adventure story is meant to serve as a backdrop to themes of self-discovery and the search for love.”

The cast includes Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley, Derek Mears and Keean Johnson.

Alita arrives on February 14, 2019.

‘Drop’ – Violett Beane Joins the Cast of Christopher Landon’s New Thriller

Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is staying busy here in 2024, directing not only the werewolf movie Big Bad but also an upcoming thriller titled Drop.

The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.

Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.

Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”

Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.

Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.

THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
