‘Battle of Los Angeles’ Director Swims Behind ‘Sand Sharks’

American World Pictures (AWP), a leading independent motion picture distribution and production company, and Remember Dreaming Productions, are pleased to announce the completion of principal photography on the Sci-Fi feature film Sand Sharks, directed by Mark Atkins (Battle of Los Angeles) and starring Corin Nemec (“Stargate SG-1,” “The War At Home”) and Brooke Hogan (“Brooke Knows Best,” “Hogan Knows Best”).

The film, written by Cameron Larson also stars Gina Holden (Saw 3D, Final Destination 3), Vanessa Lee Evigan (Journey to the Center of the Earth), Eric Scott Woods (Dark Metropolis) and Julie Berman.

In this Sci-Fi feature, prehistoric sand-dwelling sharks are unleashed on the island of White Sands when an underwater earthquake cracks open a crater deep beneath the ocean surface. The most menacing beasts to ever rule the waters, now rule the sand; with their monster appetites they mercilessly munch on anything that crosses their path.

Director Mark Atkins stated “Sand Sharks will give a new meaning to a “fish out of water” story. The fish will be out of the water and in the air as they seek and destroy unsuspecting residents of White Sands. Fans of Corin Nemec, Brooke Hogan, Gina Holden, Vanessa Lee Evigan, Eric Scott Woods and Robert Pike Daniel should prepare themselves for some serious shark mayhem as they try to cope with the terror in this Tremors’esqe Jaws-homage. You won’t look at the beach the same afterwards. We are working overtime to take this terrestrial shark movie to a new level.

American World Pictures’ Mark L. Lester and Dana Dubovsky and Remember Dreaming Productions’ Stan Spry serve as Producers along with Cameron Larson, Eric Scott Woods, Anthony Fankhauser and Scott Wheeler. Says AWP’s Dana Dubovsky, “Director Mark Atkins knows this genre all too well, and the cast was great to work with. Brooke Hogan is a natural in front of camera, this being her first feature film, she was an absolute pro.” Remember Dreaming Productions Stan Spry states “The cast and crew were extremely hard working; Brooke Hogan did fantastic and Corin Nemec, one of my childhood hero’s was amazing. The film is a fun, action packed, thrill ride with a mix of scares, thrills and laughs.” AWP’s Mark Lester adds “We expect audiences to be on the edge of their seat when watching “Sand Sharks.

Deadline details, “the English-language film will tell the story of a group of people, including two young women, who are trapped upside down on a roller coaster taken over by a mysterious saboteur threatening to drop them all one-by-one to their deaths.”

Film Bridge International is launching the project for sales ahead of the Cannes market.

Chad Law and Christopher Jolley wrote the screenplay.

Thrill Ride is exactly the type of high-concept based thriller that our customers are looking for in the marketplace,” said Film Bridge’s Ellen Wander and Jordan Dykstra. “With Ryuhei at the helm, we know his vision and execution will deliver thrills of the highest quality.”

“As a hardcore rollercoaster fan since I was young, I immediately fell in love with this script filled with suspense, action, crazy ups and downs, turns, loops, and corkscrews at maximum speed,” adds Kitamura. “I can’t wait to get on a ride and bring life to the wildest rollercoaster imaginable.”
