  • The Wrestler (2008) - Darren Aronofsky

The wrestler is the story of retired professional wrestler, Randy "The Ram" Robinson, making his way through the independent circuit, trying to get back in the game for one final showdown with his former rival. Starring Mickey Rourke in the title role.

Kind of a departure for Aronofsky, but looks like it might be pretty good...even if you aren't into wrestling. Been getting great reviews on the festival scene. I mean, Aronofsky & Rourke? Gold.

I love Aronofsky, and I love wrestling. I can't wait to see the flick. I've been waiting for it for months...I'm so pissed that I couldn't get to Toronto to check it out. It should be great.

Aronofsky has quickly become one of my favorite directors, creating two of my favorite films (Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain). I really can't wait to see what he does with this and I can only hope it takes the viewers on an emotional rollercoaster ride like his previous films. His film after this, "The Fighter" already has promising leads (Brad Pitt and Mark Wahlberg), so I don't see his greatness slowing any time soon or ever, for that matter.

Pi was good, Requiem was phenomenal, and The Fountain had me in awe and in tears through the majority of it. I'm inclined to agree, Mikey.

I'm not a huge wrestling fan anymore, but mickey rourke? fuck, that guy rocks.

I really liked the Fountain, after much deliberation. This looks vastly more tame, but still...gotta be good.

I'll watch anything that Aronofsky does, and accurate stories of wrestling are not very common, so I'm in.

Sometime in December. Aronofsky is one of the best directors in the past decade.

Evan Rachel Wood? Didn't know she was in it.

Aronofsky is great and I love Rourke. I'm so glad it's getting good reviews. I really can't wait to see it.

I'm glad that we have a serious director making a serious movie here. I'm tired of the way movies have portrayed wrestling as. They always make it more fake then what it is, losing the art that's in wrestling. The ring ropes are more lose then N2N's mom, and they make up out of this world 'not even Vince McMahon would create' characters. For a business I've loved for so long, it's good to know this will be dead serious and thought provoking. I can't wait.
