        • Tried watching Bleeders, an adaptation of Lovecraft's "The Lurking Fear". Some jackass posted a dubbed version of the film on Youtube with really bad subtitles, but I managed to make it halfway through. Only problem was the jackass didn't bother to add subtitles to the second half of the film.

It's a shame, because I was actually enjoying the movie despite the bad subs. It certainly seemed better than the shitty Full Moon adaptation I watched the other night.

I just watched a short film from 1980 called The Music of Erich Zann, based on the Lovecraft story of the same name. Overall, this was a very good adaptation, although the narrator's exposure to the cosmic forces at the end could've been creepier.

I've also been watching some MST3K episodes, during the time when Joel left the show and Mike took over. These include Mitchell (Baby Oil???), The Brain That Wouldn't Die and Teen-Age Strangler. Honestly, I enjoy the episodes from the Scifi era more. These are still good, though.

          • Blood Hook: 4/5

Mama: (1st viewing): 2.5/5 borders on a 3. watched this at the theater sat. The 1st half was building up fairly good and Mama herself was creepy and ominous...but then during the last half soooo many confusing things started happening and the prescence of her wasnt intimidating anymore because they stopped having quick shots and were doing full closeups which was killing the mood. And the charecters were doing so many unexplained things (so the the uncle just walked around the woods all day without a flashlight?) But the ending is what turned this halfway decent ghost movie into a mess, seriously? They turned into butterflies?......wat If the ending was better this might have been more then a generic modern pg13 ghost film.

            Ronin: 4.5/5

            Con Air: 4/5

Now I'm going to try to finish watching Ed Wood tonight.

With Director, Cast and Crew commentary.

I still think it's the most beautiful BluRay transfer that I've seen. It really looks like it was filmed yesterday.

I would question someones mental state if they didn't love this film.

Interesting listening to Weaver and Scott discussing the idea of wanting to go back and explore the Space Jockey and things, back in 03. Having just gone and done just that last year.

The transfer is indeed beautiful, and I really need to re-watch it again w/commentary.

                      • Yesterdays Criterion Hulu-extravaganza brought some very fine classics to my attention.

                        The Seventh Seal (1957)
Bergman's reckoning and theses with religious beliefs and the dealing with life and death in general is one great film and an instant classic. You recognize that on first sight, everything is set just fine in this masterpiece. Many questions which were raised on being human delve deep into philosophical and metaphorical territory and often hard to understand in the first place. It definitely gives you a lot to think of afterwards.
Bergman never disappoints, though his movies are often difficult to approach at.

                        10/10

                        The Exterminating Angel (1962)
A bunch of well-off citizens gather on a get-together. Shortly afterwards the group is inexplicably unable to leave the building, creating a melting pot of highly explosive emotions, once the ordeal goes on and on.
This was very fun to watch at until the very end, keeping myself guessing why those dumbasses just didn't step through the door and leave. But that's exactly the twist. In Criterion's words: this film is full of eerie, comic absurdity, furthers Bu˝uel’s wicked takedown of the rituals and dependencies of the frivolous upper classes.
My first Bu˝uel movie and certainly not my last. I might add, gorgeous cinematography as obviously usual in his films.

                        8/10

                        Viridiana (1961)
A nun is called by her uncle to visit him at his mansion. Because of her stunning resemblance to his deceased wife she soon is confronted with advances from the lecherous man and in conflict with her principles, even after a tragic event, which become her a visiting nurse to beggars.
Another fine Bu˝uel movie with the beautiful Silvia Pinal as the leading actress and filled with many allegories and outrageous moments of comedy, again including fine cinematography. This film was banned in Spain after its release, causing outrage in the Vatican and among the catholic population in Spain. Many negatives were destroyed, but one find its way to Paris, where it was preserved.
Highly recommended, if you are a sucker for allegoric arthouse and early b/w classics.

                        9/10

I love Luis Bunuel, Viridiana is shot beautifully and is just a great movie. Need to see the exterminating Angel. Belle De Jour is my favorite Bunuel film and I highly recommend. His short Un Chien Andalou (1929) can be thanked for influencing surrealism and extreme cinema.

I knew there would be Bu˝uel lovers out here.
I put Belle De Jour on my Blu-ray to buy-list, no beforehand-watch needed here. But first I have to check out The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie. Un Chien Andalou is the one with the eye-cutting, ain't it?
I'm ashamed that I've waited so long to get into Bu˝uel. I basically need all of his films on Criterion DVD.

Yup its the eye cutting. Belle de jour is worth buying for Catherine Deneuve alone lol . I want to buy his filmography as well but I've spent too much on blu rays the last 2 months. I'll probably wait a long while, hopefully a Bunuel collection will be released or something.
