    It was OK

I have to say that this really did not feel like a 1949 film. It had a fantastic look and the camera angles and everything were way ahead of its time. However, I just found the plot quite dull and flimsy. The character motivations don't entirely make sense and a lot of it I found fairly uninteresting. The music also really annoyed me! However, it looked great and Orson Welles was memorable. I appreciate it's influence.

    6/10

    • The Bunny Game (2012)

Kind of your typical "capture and torture" film that ended up dragging
out to the point where I became somewhat bored. Props to the main lady of whom the film focused on, though. She endured some of what was done to her in real life for the sake of art, so I have read. I give it a solid "meh".

      • Nymphomaniac (2014) - 8/10

I really enjoyed it, despite its length (no-pun) it flew by. I thought the direction was superb von Trier has completely out done himself here, such raw filmmaking. The acting was all largely good, Gainsbourg at times was a bit off and LaBeouf accent was non existent at times but that doesn't take anything away from my actual experience. Uma Thurman, Jamie Bell and Skarsgard (as usual) were all very good too. After watching it I don't really see what all the fuss is about in regards to it only being a porno and being tasteless, anyone watching this of a cultured nature won't see anything outrageous or controversial (bar maybe one or two scenes) it really isn't that bad, if you can't handle a few penises or vaginas, stick to watching cartoons or whatever immature people watch. This movie is a lot more than just sex, I found it very thought provoking wither it can be contrived as pretentious or not, in some scenes, is another matter. For me there is no vol. I or vol. II - there's only Nymphomaniac, see the directors cut, see it the way it was meant to be.

What We Do in the Shadows (2014) - 8/10

Watched this last night and then watched it again today. I loved every second of it. Totally my type of humour, can see this becoming a cult classic in the future. I sorta knew what I was expecting going in as I'm a fan of Flight of the Concords (Jermaine Clement who directs and stars in this was in FOTC) although it's very different from that show but as soon as I knew Clement was in, I was down. Just completely hilarious, it was better than I expected to be honest and I have been anticipating it ALL year, can't wait to watch this again. Easily overtakes Starry Eyes as my fave horror (albeit horror comedy) of the year!

        • Tenement 1985 (8/10) - Seedy 80's exploitation about a gang of thugs who try to kill and torment residents of a trashy tenement block floor by floor (Like the Raid but with bad guys). Lots of fun with strong gore and violence! Extremely underrated in the exploitation world.

Only people who believe that are people who either haven't watched or are looking to hate on Von Trier just because it's Von Trier.

            Whiplash (2014, Damien Chazelle) - 7/10

Put "2 Fast 2 Furious" in B&W and Se7en thinks he's watching a Bergman film.
I find the Metal Gear Solid series to be mediocre at best.

            • Finders Keepers - 3/5 Pretty good evil doll movie.

Jersey Shore Massacre - 3/5 The score is strictly for the gore. Which was actually decent, including a shower scene boob hacking. The rest of the movie: acting, characters, dialogue was as stupid as expected.

              • Captain America: The Winter Sodier - I'll keep this short..

                Pros:

                - Insane action. You pretty much get every type of action there is, from great hand to hand fights, to car chases, to shoot-outs, to big set-piece sequences with lots of 'splosions. It's jammed. It's all really well done too.

                - Good story that manages to tie up both Captain America's franchise and The Avengers' together in a nice little package, while pushing things forward as well.

                - A more serious tone than most Marvel flicks. Doesn't shy away from more edgy content, and the witty banter found all over these movies that can lighten the mood a little too much at times, is taken down to a minimum.

                - Does the impossible, and makes Captain America kind of cool.

                Cons

                - Who the fuck is Falcon, and who the fuck cares?

                9/10

Really fun stuff, and for my money easily the best Marvel movie made to date.

It ain't no TDK though, Hag.

                  • The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford - 8.5/10

Incredible performances, beautiful cinematography (Roger Deakins is awesome) and interesting, although slight, storytelling make this overlong movie more than worth watching. I've always been fond of this movie and I think it's a bit under appreciated despite some of it's shortcomings. It has a warm, comforting charm despite how down beat it is.

is it weird that I relate to and feel bad for Casey Affleck in this movie? It sure isn't very kind to him.

Such a shame this movie flopped and hasn't caught much of a following among any group of people since release. Same goes for Killing Them Softly. Poor Andrew Dominik can't catch a box office break.

Havent seen TAOJJBTCRF but Killing Them Softly didn't exactly set the world on fire on it's release, it's average at best. Chopper on the other hand is a brilliant movie, Bana owned that movie.

I enjoyed this a lot for what is relatively a simple movie, plot wise. The acting was superb as was the direction. J.K. Simmons was brilliant as the hard ass music teacher and as was Miles Teller (a young John Cusack lol) as the student. Very good writing, it wasn't predictable at all and the music and cinematography were just as good, really impressed with this. "Good job".

I had a great time with it. The only problem for me was being distracted by Lauren Hutton's acting.

I don't think it's better but I like it more. With that said it's worthy of being in the discussion of greatest comic book film of all time. It kicks so much ass.
