“Chernobyl” Director Johan Renck Will Be Directing the Pilot Episode of HBO’s “The Last of Us”

Announced earlier this year, Naughty Dog’s hit zombie game “The Last of Us” is getting a series adaptation over at HBO, with game creator/writer Neil Druckmann on board to co-write and produce. Craig Mazin (“Chernobyl”) is developing the planned series for HBO, and he’ll be working with Druckmann to write and executive produce the adaptation.

Chatting with Discussing Film, Johan Renck (“Bates Motel,” “Chernobyl”) has just revealed that he’s also attached to HBO’s “The Last of Us,” set to direct (at least) the pilot episode.

I’m an executive producer on it and attached to it. It’s an ongoing TV series. So that’s not something that I will be able to take on to that extent, but I’m part of that series and I will be directing at least the pilot,” Renck told the site. “Then we’ll see how it goes on further.”

THR noted back in March, “The HBO series will cover the events of the original game.”

In the award-winning game, “20 years after a pandemic has radically changed known civilization, infected humans run wild and survivors are killing each other for food, weapons; whatever they can get their hands on. Joel, a violent survivor, is hired to smuggle a 14 year-old girl, Ellie, out of an oppressive military quarantine zone, but what starts as a small job soon transforms into a brutal journey across the U.S.”

The series comes from PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures Television.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

“Chucky” – Official Trailer for This Week’s New Episode Brings Brad Dourif into the White House!

Just two episodes remain in Season 3 of “Chucky,” with the second-to-last episode airing this Wednesday night on USA & SYFY. It’s titled “There Will Be Blood,” and oh yes there will be.

Last week’s episode was absolutely INSANE, with Chucky taking control of the situation room in the White House and attempting to start World War 3. His plan was thwarted, but not before nuking the North Pole. In the wake of launching that missile, Chucky met the true death, his doll body disintegrating into ash like he got Thanos snapped out of existence.

The episode ended with an appearance from Brad Dourif as Charles Lee Ray in his human form, with his spirit now free from the doll and roaming around the haunted White House.

Here’s the official plot synopsis for this week’s episode: “Parapsychologists investigate the disturbances in the White House, while Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) plans her escape.”

“There Will Be Blood” airs Wednesday, April 24 on USA and SYFY. Reversing a new plan they tested out last week, we’re told the episode will be available on Peacock this Thursday.
