^Would be interesting to combine all the Car/footchase scenes of several movies that take place at popular locations so they play at the same time.

And even fist fights, like that cliff face that used in Star Trek, Kirk vs the Gorn, and then in Bill and Ted and so on.

      ...

The purpose of a Bond movie is to take hold of the baton and run with it. The concept of a remake or reboot for this franchise should be a misnomer because all it is is a template, thus pressing the reset button should have no place. If there intention all along was to build up to where they were in the past with M and Moneypenny, why did it take them three films to do it?

I got the impression they were condescending to the material even when they were paying tribute to it. Bond getting behind the wheel of a sports car shouldn't be a special moment, it should be par for the course, not a *wink wink nudge nudge* moment. They don't go for exploding pens anymore? Tell me about it.

And what a waste of a Bond girl. Gorgeous as hell and potentially a character with substance, yet barely in the thing at all. It's unfortunate because the only time you see female characters like that is in 30's 40's 50's film noir and Bond movies.

I thought for sure I would like this better than QOS but as flawed as that one was I might have liked both Casino Royale and QOS more than Skyfall.

Finally got arond to seeing this, best Craig Bond by far. Being a Bond Nerd for all my life, i love all the shit they threw in there, the Car at the end was great, even had that damned ejector button.

As big of bond nerd that i am, i dont mind the lesser screen time for the bond girl. Personally, they have always more or less been pussy for James to tap, only a few have actually transcended the label and been on bonds level. If they can fit the story awesome, if not then kill them off I felt that this chick was nothing but a plot device and Eve was more of a stronger persona, but granted who she turned out to be at the end justified the stronger persona.

I saw this as a mini-starting off point again, the damaged bond being re-built with a new crew and new mission. Great shit.

I kinda missed the fantasy elements, but a great direction none the less.

I would have wished for more car action, but been thinking they've purposely avoided that with the more serious tones they've been using. I just hope the cars aren't gone for good.

Best ever? Dunno, I may feel that way later, it's defiantly up there, but I want to weigh it out in my mind for a while before I give it that title. So many great Bond movies, so many different tones...

Troof. It is a solid entry in the Bond history, but I wouldn't call it the best just because I am still so pumped about it, after leaving theater.
There are many others, which I would call best or my favorite. The ones from the 60's or 70's have this special vibe and charm, which can't be replicated by any other movie later in the series. And this atmosphere/vibe makes Bond so charming and loveable.
To each his own, but this is my personal definition of Bond.

It is the best Craig has offered us, to me however, it is still no Goldfinger.

Finally got around to seeing this today and loved it.

It's one classy flick. The song, the opening credits, the action scenes and the villain. All top shelf quality. Daniel Craig is as smooth as ever and Judi Dench deserves a supporting actress award come Oscar time. The cinematography is also excellent, especially the Shanghai/Macua and Scotland scenes. Well done to Rodger Deakins for making the film look gorgeous. Only complaint I have and it's very minor is that I would've liked Javier Bardem to have a tad more screen time. I loved his character. I would've also like to have seen more of his fucked up face, but I guess this franchise has really gone the TDK route and gotten a rid of a lot of the cartoonish elements from the franchise. That's OK because realism really suits these films.

                  4.5/5

I agree actually. For me Javier Bardem stole the show as Silva, along with Judi Dench. I wish Javier was in it from the start, or at least earlier than he was because he was just brilliant and so chilling! It's the first bond movie I've seen and whilst it's still no Dark Knight it was entertainment of the highest quality!

                      Well I'll be that guy.

Didn't really care for it... Still hate Craig as Bond and I felt that I've seen this story done better multiple times in better films.

7/10 at best for awesome action

Really surprising to hear that from you.

                          Agreed. Bardem was amazing.

You must not know me very well. I have always hated Craig as Bond.

Be honest folks, this movie was action 101... Nothing to see here, move along.

                            Edit

But in all seriousness, I don't get why this is so highly acclaimed. Casino Royale was a lot better, but this was a huge step up from QOS (which is the worst Bond movie ever).

                              Completely agree.

It was very entertaining and had great action scenes, but that's it. It's your standard big budget action flick.

                                Spoilers abound so...

I'll third what coffee and the Rev said. I was really bothered that nobody in MI6 can shoot (apparently) and Bond basically fails to save you know who. The movie basically takes us back to square one. By introducing Q and the gadgets and bringing in a new M, it's like the reboot is already being rebooted. What happened to the big worldwide terrorist network introduced in Royale? And why can't the series bring in real world conflicts and scenarios to offer up some boldness and relevance to the films? I think a story involving Bond rescuing the prince from the Taliban or something would be pretty cool. But instead we get a cartoonish villain with a prosthetic and a story that's already sort of been done. Finally, why the fuck did Bond and Co. have to square off against Silva alone, when they could have called in the calvary like they did when they initially caught him? The climax was exciting but incredibly inane. /rant
