  • Oz: The Great and Powerful (2013)

Directed by Sam Raimi and in theaters March 8th.

    Trailer

    Synopsis...
How the Wizard arrived in Oz and became the ruler. A prequel to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz. At first he thinks he's hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking. That all changes, however, when he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Great trailer, I'm definitely looking forward to this.

Saw a trailer in front of TDKR... it looks like it could be cool. The potential is there but the design of things looks straight from Burton's Alice In Wonderland (same guy).

Yeah this looks too Tim Burton-ish. And I can't stand James Franco. Would have highly preferred Robert Downey Jr. in the role.

And someone should tell Raimi that the beginning of Wizard of Oz was in sepia tone, not B&W.

A prequel to The Wizard of Oz is a dumb idea.. as are most prequels. The original is classic and I like the sequel too, because they both adaptations of the books. This will probably be visually spectacular but fail story-wise.

Sam Raimi is a deterrent for me.

                Pass.

I don't mind Alice in Wonderland if you consider it's basically the story of the Jabberwocky poem.

But how the hell are you going make an Oz film without Dorothy? That's like making Alice in Wonderland without Alice.

Reminds me too much of Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

That's what I thought too when viewing the trailer plus I'm not a big fan of Franco but I'll wind up seeing it eventually on dvd most likely
