[Video] New GVMERS Doc Chronicles The Rise And Fall of ‘Duke Nukem’

Published

on

Duke Nukem 3D was some of the most fun many PC gamers had growing up. Neil talked about the game extensively earlier this year with its 25th anniversary. While some of Duke’s racier mannerisms wouldn’t fly today, you can’t deny that the character and the game’s personality had a certain appeal for those who loved the action films of the 80s and 90s, well as those who wanted their shooters with a bit more personality.

And then there’s Duke Nukem Forever. What could’ve been a rival for Quake 2 and Half-Life ended up being the butt end of a joke for over a decade, until it was released to middling reviews and a overall feeling of datedness.

GVMERS finally decided to tackle the man himself with their latest documentary, chronicling his humble beginnings as a sidescroller before hitting it big with the transition to 3D, to the franchise’s slow downfall as Forever took forever to complete.

If you’re keen on revisiting Duke 3D, you can of course snag the 20th Anniversary World Tour edition on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch. Or, if you’re a sucker for the original classic, you can always snag the Atomic Edition on GOG.
