Did They Secretly Film the ‘Zombieland’ Sequel?!

Published

on

We’ve been talking about a sequel to Zombieland since the first double tapped the hearts of zombie fans back in 2009. Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool) have been our main source of recent information on the project, and have openly expressed that a followup would eventually happen (possibly in 2019, for the 10th anniversary) with Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin all returning. They’ve been so supportive and open about the chances of a sequel that it’s actually quite surprising that it hasn’t filmed yet. Or has it?

Splash Report is alleging to have been sent an invite to a test screening taking place this coming Thursday, June 7th for a film titled, get this, Zombieland 2: Double Tap. They shared the following screencap of the invite that came via website previewfreemovies.com. Did Sony secretly film the long-gestating sequel to Zombieland right under all of our noses?

I guess we’ll know for sure as early as tomorrow…

What we do know is that Zombieland 2, according to Reese and Wernick, will not be taking place directly after Zombieland. Alleged leaked plot details do echo that info, via the exact same site:

ZOMBIELAND TOO opens with a question. What would happen if we ran out of zombies? An interesting concept, one that hasn’t been explored in any film of the genre thus far. The way the film approaches answering the question is both hilarious and depressing. The change from ‘zombies’ to ‘no zombies’ can be considered as big as the change from ‘no zombies’ to ‘zombies.’ It’s such a dramatic transformation to one’s routine, what they consider normal, that it fundamentally alters their mentality. Boredom and apathy seep into each person’s psyche, slowly growing discontent with one another until they reach an inevitable boiling point.

The main plot of ZOMBIELAND TOO follows the gang as they attempt to find Little Rock after she ran away with an individual (unnamed due to spoilers). Columbus, Tallahassee, and Wichita embark on a journey that takes them all the way across the country to hopefully save LR from certain death. You know how earlier I mentioned zombies were now extinct in Zombieland? I lied. You see, while the regular, lumbering creatures from the first film have no interest in humans anymore, rendering them essentially extinct, they have been replaced by SUPER ZOMBIES—giant, muscular, incredibly tough beings that are only able to be killed through a headshot. A horde of these super-zombies has been migrating from city to city, destroying everything in its wake. And it’s up to the gang to finally put an end to this bloodshed, or face extinction themselves.”

The site also notes that four new characters are added to the mix – Reno, TB, Cleveland, Madison – who seem to each be very similar to the characters we already know and love.

‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Adds “Chucky” Actor Teo Briones and More to Lead Cast

The Final Destination franchise is returning to life with Final Destination: Bloodlines. With filming now underway, THR reports that three actors have joined the lead cast, including “Chucky” actor Teo Briones.

Brec Bassinger (“Stargirl”) and Kaitlyn Santa Juana (The Friendship Game) join Teo Briones, who played Junior Wheeler in season two of “Chucky,” as the leads in the sixth installment of the horror franchise.

Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein (Freaks) are directing the fresh installment that also includes Richard Harmon (“The 100”, Grave Encounters 2), Anna Lore, Owen Patrick Joyner, Max Lloyd-Jones (The Book Of Boba Fett), Rya Kihlstedt (Obi Wan Kenobi), and Tinpo Lee (The Manor) among the cast.

Production is now underway in Vancouver.

What can we expect from the upcoming Final Destination 6? Speaking with Collider, franchise creator Jeffrey Reddick offered up an intriguing (and mysterious) tease last year.

“This film dives into the film in such a unique way that it attacks it from a different angle so you don’t feel like, ‘Oh, there’s an amazing setup and then there’s gonna be one wrinkle that can potentially save you all that you have to kind of make a moral choice about or do to solve it.’ There’s an expansion of the universe that – I’m being so careful,” Reddick teased.

Reddick continued, “It kind of unearths a whole deep layer to the story that kind of, yes, makes it really, really interesting.”

Final Destination: Bloodlines is written by Lori Evans Taylor (“Wicked Wicked Games”) and Guy Busick (Scream), with Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home) producing.

Producers on the new movie for New Line Cinema also include Dianne McGunigle (Cop Car) as well as Final Destination producers Craig Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor.

This will be the sixth installment in the hit franchise, and the first in over ten years. Each film centers on “Death” hunting down young friends who survive a mass casualty event.

The latest entry is expected in 2025, coinciding with the original film’s 25th anniversary.
