Well, kinda hard to say what's what the way people are discussing it.

That is, from the 2nd movie mostly, we got a repeating life/creature cycle.

But here you got the start of that cycle. They could prolly have written it up where any one of the stages was the originally constructed creature, some stages making more sense then others.

So black goo => any stage really (the alpha face hugger in this case) => the cycle we know.

Tho the first few cycles say aren't gonna be 100% in sync with the cycle exactly as it is in the 2nd movie, rather it'll take a few cycles, and then it'll match "perfectly" as it the cycle reaches it's familiar appearence.
