I fucked my hand up in the mid 90s thus gave up on playing. The urge is grabbing me so going to go out buy a 4 string bass. Figured for what is wrong this is the best bet. Plus I like the feel and sound of Bass so a win win situation all round.

Don't think I could ever put the guitar down

Anyone who owns a Jazzmaster, how hard is it to put on a new Pickguard? Just bought a SX guitar which is basically is a JM Blacktop and want to switch the Pickguard with a tort one in the future.

Shouldn't be too hard you do have a soldering iron right ?

Just make sure which line goes to the tone port and volume ports it's fairly simple a few screws and a few wires.

I've done it a hundred times.

Thanks. Got another question to see if anyone can help me with.

Got this Strat that has never played good from day one, so thought I would just sand it down and repaint it to something unique. Started sanding it down with 220 grit(I plan on getting a courser grit later on)anyway after some elbow grease the paint slighly started coming off showing a grey color underneath, guessing that would be the primer right?

I would say so btw use 2 coats of paint and some shellac before you laquer it when you finally laquer it wait for a long time use 0000 steel wool on the neck and some turtle wax or carnuba wax and give it a shine.

This is my plan:


1.)Sand it down with 120 grit sandpaper to remove finish
2.)Put wood filler, if needed to fill cracks/dents
3.)Wipe guitar down with damp rag to clean it from dust/dirt
4.)Hang guitar from a wire
5.)Add coat of primer
6.)Sand guitar down with 800 grit with wet sand paper then add another coat of primer
7.)Spray 6 coats of paint (wait 15 minutes between each coat)
8.)Spray 10 coats of clear coat (let it sit for 48 hours)
9.)Sand guitar with 800 wet sand paper again
10.)Put parts back in guitar

Sound good? I used This as a guide.

That will work in my opinion a little over the top if it's just an old strat that's borderline professional also I have never used 800 grit I always used 220 because 800 seems like you would be taking way too much off.


But experiment who knows you might find a combo that brings it out really well.

I've never learned anything, apart from the Nightmare theme.

I've always been kinda interested to learn the G' Tar but my patience is almost non-existent.

However, a few mates are starting up a band (nothing serious, just for fun). And they want me to join, I told them I'd likely get a cheap Electric guitar ($100 depending on what I have left after car rego). And learning rhythm, they asked me to be singer too. As I do go all-right at the old karaoke at the pub when I'm pissed as all fuck.

Should be interesting though.
