My second viewing. This is my favorite film released since 2007s There Will Be Blood. Paul Thomas Anderson makes movies like no one else can. Beautifully shot, shockingly profound, and acted with professional genius. A movie about two men who are insane in their own ways that find a sort of duality in one another while seeking out their own ambitions separately. Who is The Master? Is Freddie becoming the master of his own life? Or in Lancaster the true master of the organization that seeks to control all in his reach?

There isn't a single thing about this movie that I don't like. It is a hypnotic work of pure genius.
I need to see this.

The movie was showing at a local specialty theater for one night only so I called in sick at work just so I could go.

The showed it in 70mm. What a great experience.
It was shot in 70mm?!

They recently did an Alfred Hitchcock retrospective with all of his most popular films, and all of the big screen. It's cinematic heaven.
My favorite theater had those themes as well, but this was eons ago. They turned mainstream now, but it still remains my number one place for movies.

I loved this when I saw it at the cinema although its such a heavy experience that many more viewings are required to slowly unravel it. I like your description, I think the scene where they drive motorbikes in opposite directions sums up the basic premise only there is an imaginary elastic between their bikes which is the fascination.

Read about this the other day. It sounds great. PTA, Jaoquin, the psychedelic 60's, a stoned private eye and what seems like somewhat of a black comedy...sounds like fucking gold.

The ABC's of Death - 7.5/10

Some were great, some were ok and some were just bad. But, overall I enjoyed the hell out of it.

First I've heard of this and you've just made me cum...

Zero Dark Thirty (9/10) - This was very difficult territory and they nailed it, the controversy about the torture scenes is nonsense. Jessica Chastain is quickly becoming my favorite actress as well, she's superb in everything I've seen.

Catfish (7/10) - The whole falling in love over the internet seems stupid to me (not just in this but in general) but the filmmakers dealt with the "subject" very well for a humanistic documentary as it could have easily become exploitation.
