I know that for the most of you this is a no brainer. I however have put this debate to the test. In my opinion the picture quality is the same either way and I cant really tell much difference in HD vs. SD. The sound however is a lot more crisp and clear on a blu than on a dvd. Overall I choose bluray based on that factor alone otherwise I cant tell much differance besides blurays being able to hold more memory and whatnot. What does everyone else think?

The difference in picture quality isn't something I care too much about. I did get a multi region blu player in January though as generally blu releases are much better. Especially for B movies that never got the proper treatment on DVD.

I love the increase in detail, color clarity, and overall look of the movies on blu ray (on careful and quality transfers, at least). Having a pretty high end television that is configured and set up correctly definitely helps. Also the sound rules and studios spend much more time on a blu ray release in regards to special features and packaging. I won't buy new releases or just about anything on DVD anymore, personally. A blu ray can be a jaw dropping experience.
Of course, DVDs are generally just fine and I have massive collection that I will never rid of. And I also can't critique anyone for not upgrading because DVDs are good enough or they dont want to replace their equipment. No harm, no foul. I just see it being difficult enjoying new films on DVD in five years as they may be phased out by then. The only thing that bakes my noodle is when people say there isn't any quality increase and blu rays are a scam. You clearly don't have it set up right or are blind. Not accusing anyone here of that, but I've met many people in real life who have made such claims. Also, blu rays are not that expensive. There are cheap blu ray bins at every best buy and wal mart now.

Exactly, I think most ppl who make remarks about blu-rays being on a par with DVDS obviously do not own a HD television and is possibly using a component connection. I can't comment on standalone BR players. I own a PS3 and I know when Sony first released PlayStation 3, you could watch blu-rays either via HDMI or component but only a moron would go with the latter method. The new PS3 model (Slim?) will only handle HD playback with HDMI, exactly how it should be! The difference is there, its evident.

If you can't see any difference between blu ray and DVD then you have to be blind.
There is no debate here. Blu ray is light years ahead of DVD. When I pop in a DVD these days the grain is more apparent, the colours are wishy washy and not vibrant at all. i still buy TV series series on DVD but all of my movies are now blu.
