Finally got around to watching the finale, so here's one last bitch session, SPOILERS AHEAD! Here goes.....
- Laguerta's investigation for the entire season, was weak as shit. I never once felt like she unraveling anything of importance. Contrast it with Doakes' and Lundy's investigation in season 2, and it's pretty damn uneventful. Even when she arrested Dexter, I felt nothing. She had no case whatsoever, and the arrest seemed to happen, strictly because it was the season finale. - The Doakes cameo was pointless. We know what Doakes thought about Dexter. We didn't need it spelled out for us, like we're two year-olds. Doakes always thought Dexter was a weirdo. We got that in the very first season, thanks. - I like how Hannah was kept alive, but fear that come next season, they won't know what to do with her, like with Lewis, and just kill her off. - Harry bringing up the importance of "the code".......LOL. Where the fuck have you been for the past two seasons Harry? Code? What fucking code? - The entire scene at the end, was off the wall. Deb doesn't want Dexter to kill Laguerta, and her solution is to track her down, and kill her herself? Even in the moment, it makes no sense. If the only solution is to kill Laguerta, then let Dexter do it and complete his plan. Instead, Deb decides to shoot her with her registered, police issued hand gun? Real smart move there. I would've much rather had Deb just turn her back to the scene, and walk out. All in all, this season was okay. Too many characters, and sub-plots that went nowhere though. We had the Lewis sub-plot, the Mob boss sub-plot, the fucking club owner and Quinn sub-plot, The Hannah sub-plot. I mean Goddamn! Focus on something. Laguerta investigating Dexter, should've been the main issue, and it was hardly ever the focus, right up until the end, where it just seemed obligatory. 6/10 Last edited by Heretic; 12-18-2012 at 04:39 PM. |

I loved that this story line will be continued since I felt Hannah was one of the best parts of this season, but agree with the Lewis analogy. Hopefully they won't ruin this or run out of idea for her and just hastily kill her off...

I thought the series was plodding along but really came alive when they introduced her.

Overall, I thought it was a good season. I don't think there was an episode that I was majorly disappointed with.

Shape: "Debra could have saved herself the agony and pain of having to kill LeGuerta if she would've just left like Dexter told her to... but the writers wanted Dex and Deb to be connected in some way, so what better way than for big sis to save little bro?" Well, yeah we knew it was going to happen, but that doesn't mean it should've. I felt no sympathy for Deb whatsoever after she shot LeGuerta... Dexter told her multiple times to leave and let him handle it. All she had to do was turn her back and let Dexter do what Dexter does (and will continue to do). The point was for you to feel sorry for Deb having to choose between killing her Captain, who was doing the right thing, or kill her brother whose the only family she's got left but yet a psychopath. Honestly, it was just a bull shit way to get you to feel the connection and love that Deb has for Dexter. It could have all been avoided had she just turned her back and left. It's the reason why I believe this was the weakest finale we've gotten so far... I expected better. Let's just hope this last season doesn't go out the same way. Make us FEEL that emotion we felt when we saw Dexter walk in to find his wife in a bathtub full of blood. |

I finally got the chance to watch season 7. Overall, other than the Lewis and Quinn subplots, I thought this was a pretty great season and definitely an improvement over season 6. I do wish though that more episodes towards the end had dealt with LaGuerta's investigation. The Phantom subplot could've been done away with. As far as villains go, Isaak made for a pretty great "Big Bad". Having a man out for revenge was a nice departure from having another serial killer as the main villain. Ray Stevenson did a good job with the role. My current ranking of Dexter's Big Bads:
1. Trinity 2. ITK 3. Isaak 4. Jordan Chase 5. Lila 6. Miguel 7. Doomsday |
