If you go down to the woods today... Watch out for Cropsy!
![]() Directed by: Tony Maylam Plot A caretaker at a summer camp is burned when a prank goes tragically wrong. After several years of intensive treatment at hospital, he is released back into society, albeit missing some social skills. What follows is a bloody killing spree with the caretaker making his way back to his old stomping ground to confront one of the youths that accidently burned him. ![]() Don't look, he'll see you. Don't breathe, he'll hear you. Don't move... you're dead! ![]() ![]() ![]() Comments: "The Burning" is one of my top favorite slasher films and is one of the best from it's time. The make-up effects are so good. This definitely is a bloody slasher indeed. The famous raft scene is brutal. Some might consider this to be a "Friday the 13th" rip-off but this is a GOOD one and a little bit better. "Cropsy" the killer is very ugly and it would had been nice to see him become a "horror-icon" like "Jason Voorhess". I am happy that I finally was able to see this for the 1st time recently in the uncut Monster HD version. It really sucks that this "cult-classic" hasn't received an official DVD release from MGM. The Weinstein Borthers actually produced this so I think they should do something about it. Another good thing about this film is to see some famous actors like Jason Alexander and Holly Hunter when they were young. I never thought I would say this but in my opinion Jason looked really cute in this film and Holly Hunter has always been a beauty. My only problem with the film is that the last moments are not too exciting because of the ugly nerdy guy who I had seen before in "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" is very annoying and I every time I get sick of watching him hiding around the woods. If you are searching for a camp slasher other than the "Fth13th" series then "The Burning" is the best choice. I highly recommend it. It is a must-see for those hardcore-slasher fans out there. ![]()

Obvious Spoilers-->You can view the infamous raft scene here. <--Obvious spoilers
The Burning is one of my favoritest slashers. Tom Savini could practically do no wrong in the 80's. Good gore, great kills, great face on Cropsey. |

A decent second half can't make up for such a poor first. Some good effects though.
Watch out for Holly Hunter in her first role.

I'll have to admit the scene with the guy from Short Circuit shooting the guy in the ass with the pellet gun was pretty funny... but I was so bored by the time the killings started that I almost didn't finish it.

An orgy of cheesy campfire slasher fare. I dug it completely. While it isn't a cinematic masterpiece by any means it never fails to entertain me in it's awkward and sometimes uneven balance of humor and horror; guts and grins. Cropsy is one of my all time favorite limb hackers. The raft scene really makes the flick....I feel sorry for those who haven't seen it in it's entire sleazeball form.
My only complaint is that before the end lap the killings are too far and few between. |

You should have more options, they sjhould have been:
-Great -Good -OK _not bad _hated it Cause IMo im with the "good" option. Not great but not bad but better than OK. I have it and watched more than once, quit a few times actually. |

I was laughing my ass off at the first half, man. It made me want to go to summer camp.
