It's hard to pick anything specific from "Meddle" to "The Wall" - all great stuff. Similarly Waters and Gilmour each had their moments of greatness. The Barrett-era just wasn't long enough for me to rank with the classic 70s run. And it feels like a completely different band to me. "Piper" is great though.
I saw Floyd a while ago for their "Momentary Lapse of Reason" tour in the late 80s. Just Gilmour on vocals (though he tackled the Waters-sung songs too). Great concert, hitting most of the classic songs. And the best songs from the latest album didn't sound too out of place. I don't think I've ever seen so many tripping/high people concentrated in one place before (it was at a 65,000 stadium). And the giant flying pig was unleashed for the show |

I thought On an Island was incredible. If it had the Pink Floyd name on it, I feel like it would be looked at as better than the past 3 albums they released.
As far as their solo material goes though, nothing can touch The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking |

I saw Waters when he was out in Oakland last year. He can't hit the high notes like he used to (and hasn't be able since Pros and Cons). Still a killer show though, but watching the entire Dark Side of the Moon being performed with just Roger was kind of like watching a PF cover band when he wasn't able to sing Gilmour's parts. |

Floyd is the musical peak of the world to me. No band, in my experience, has ever been able to transcend all genres into one musical property that truly has no genre like they have. Spanning 20+ years before things fell apart, they managed to do things that were light years ahead of their time. Dark Side was recorded on a bunch of 4 tracks! WTF? There are pieces with 20-30 tracks of music that were pieced together with as many sounds and instruments as they could think of. It's an absolutely sickening amount of ingenuity and musical genius on display.
Shine on You Crazy Diamond is their be all end all piece in my eyes. Put all the parts together and you will hear the most diverse and emotional music ever put down in the last 2 generations. Unfortunately...starting with Division Bell...things got sour really quick. Waters solo is OK, but I personally cannot stand Gilmour solo. I have seen each of them live, Waters twice. The shows are great and all, but they're missing the cohesion. Water's live guitarist can't fucking breath Gilmour's air, let alone play his music. From Gilmour's side, no Floyd sounds right without Roger's voice. If they ever, EVER get together before they get too old, I'd plunk down three bills a ticket...easily. Greatest of all time, IMO.....bar none.
